Hoedt: ‘It Was A Nice Feeling To Score’

Defender Wesley Hoedt was pleased to score on his home debut for the Hornets, but was disappointed that the match ended in a 1-1 stalemate with Blackburn Rovers.

Following intense pressure from the Golden Boys during the second period, the centre-half’s impressive volley, from Ken Sema’s deflected set-piece, cancelled out Bradley Dack’s opener for Rovers.

Having signed from Anderlecht during the January transfer window, putting pen to paper on a two-and-a-half-year deal, Hoedt had been eager to make a positive first impression in front of his new supporters.

And with the match ending level, the Dutchman felt that his side deserved more from the game, but is hopeful for better results in future encounters to come.

“It was a bit of a weird game because we dominated the whole match, but we couldn’t find the opportunities to score and I think this is a part that we have to improve,” Hoedt said.

“It was a deflected ball from the goalkeeper and it came back to me. It was a good strike and it was nice to score on my home debut, but I would rather have had the three points.

“Defensively, I think we gave nothing away at all. I think they had a shot on goal once and we dominated the whole game. You have to convert the possession we had into chances and then you’re going to win games.

“It was an amazing atmosphere in the stadium, so that was very nice and I really enjoyed it. We have a few days now until Burnley (Tuesday February 14, 8pm KO), and we need a win, so it will be an important game.”
