Hernández: “The Reaction Of The Fans Was Fantastic”

Cucho Hernández wants to keep entertaining the Watford supporters following his first goal for the club.

Hernández scored the all-important third barely a minute after coming on for his debut as a substitute in the 3-2 win over Aston Villa, and enjoyed the celebrations of his teammates and the fans.

“I was obviously ready to come onto the pitch,” said Hernández. “I hoped I could do well and maybe eventually score, which would’ve been fantastic. I was ready. The reaction of the fans and team was fantastic.”

The Colombian forward took the advice of Head Coach Xisco Muñoz and received an instant reward with the goal.

“He [Muñoz] asked me to cut [inside] and go deep into the space that they were leaving. When I touched the ball twice and I saw the goal, I thought, ‘why not?’

“The reality is that I didn’t think [to cross], I just wanted to strike. I don’t know if there was a chance to cross it or not, but I always think about scoring.”

This was Hernández’s first game in front of a full-capacity Vicarage Road, having spent the first four years of his Watford career out on loan.

“It was fantastic, but I must say that they [the fans] always supported me ever since I came here from the first day. What I want to do is to keep entertaining them and scoring more goals to help the team.

“The difference is outstanding. The reality is that fans make every stadium different, so I hope they can stay with us until the end of the season and push us beyond.”
