Goldie: “The Clean Sheet Is Very Important To Us”

After recently making the move to the Golden Girls from Arsenal on a dual-sign agreement, Teyah Goldie was put straight into the starting line-up for the game against Blackburn Rovers Ladies at the weekend.

She had an immediate impact with her new side in the 0-0 draw, as the Hornets earned a point and kept a first clean sheet of the season.

“I really enjoyed myself,” she told watfordfc.com afterwards. “It was a very transitional match I would say, but the girls have been amazing since I’ve come in.

“It’s a nice side to play in. The team had a lot of the ball and I got on the ball quite a lot, we created chances, it was just the final bit that didn’t come off.”

While it was a well-earned point, the centre-back felt that it could have been even more, especially based on the opening 45.

“I do think we should have got the three points,” explained Goldie. “I think in the first half we dominated and that was something in the second half we wanted to capitalise on.

“They then got into the match a bit more. In the second half I would say a fair representation would be the 0-0, but ultimately we wanted the three points.”

Goldie’s qualities were on show at both ends of the pitch, performing well as part of the backline and also venturing forward on occasion.

“We definitely performed well as a defensive unit,” she explained. “I think we kept their chances to a minimum.

“A few times in the second half they created a little bit, but the clean sheet is very important to us and that’s something we can build on, continuing to keep getting those.”

“I love to get forward,” Goldie continued. “So that’s something you’ll see a bit more, I love a few skills too, so I hope to show those.”

There’ll now be some more time to get to know her new teammates, with the Hornets’ next fixture not until February 6.

“It’s a bit disappointing that we don’t have a game next week,” said Goldie after the match. “I’d love to be out on the field again.

“I think we can use this time and build towards the Charlton game, where again, we’ll be after the three points.”
