Rainbow Laces: Deeney, Ward & Jewell Talk Equality

By: Watford FC Staff

The Hornets are delighted to once again support the successful Rainbow Laces campaign, which aims to promote positive attitudes towards the LGBT community and show support for all LGBT people in football and beyond.

Watford’s family ethos remains at the heart of our club. We're proud to be active allies and continue to support Rainbow Laces. We also stand alongside our Proud Hornets supporters’ group in promoting equality, diversity and inclusion at Vicarage Road.

Ahead of this weekend’s Rainbow Laces matchday, Callum Jewell – co-founder of the Proud Hornets – met with our two club captains, Troy Deeney and Helen Ward, to discuss some of the issues around equality, and you can watch the informal conversation below.

The club also recently hosted the European premiere of La Golda, during which club staff and fans took a pledge promising to accept and respect everyone for exactly who they are on and off the field.

Our support for the Proud Hornets goes beyond the Rainbow Laces campaign and continues across the year, most notably around both London and Herts Pride events, and has also seen the group involved in activities with our Community & Education Trust, including the recent Herts Youth Inclusive football tournament.

Keep an eye out for more details about Rainbow Laces and the Proud Hornets at this Saturday’s Crystal Palace match and the Community Trust’s ‘Train Like A Pro’ day.
