The Hornets were delighted to welcome Watford Muslim Youth Centre Trust to host a vibrant and inclusive Family Fun Day at the club’s Vicarage Road home.

Sunday’s (May 21) event aimed to bring the local community together for a day of fun-filled activities, fostering a sense of togetherness and promoting cultural exchange. It attracted a diverse audience from all walks of life, creating an atmosphere of inclusivity and celebration. With an impressive turnout, over 5,000 people joined in across the course of the day, perfectly showcasing the community’s enthusiasm for coming together.

The stadium was transformed into a lively hub of excitement, offering a feast of engaging activities for all age groups. Attendees had the opportunity to explore a variety of stalls, featuring local businesses, community organisations and cultural treats. From delicious food vendors serving tasty meals to artisans showcasing their crafts, there was something for everyone.

Particularly popular among children, a range of activities took place on the pitch. The laughter and joy echoed throughout the ground as families came together to partake in the festivities and fully utilised the exciting inflatables and sports on offer. Furthermore, football enthusiasts displayed their skills on the pitch, engaging in friendly kickabouts and matches which showcased their passion for the game.

During the afternoon Dhuhr, the second of five daily prayers observed by the Muslim community, was performed in congregation on the Vicarage Road pitch with both men and women participating. The Adhan (call to prayer) was heard over the Vicarage Road PA system and was led by Imran Khan from WMYCT.

The event was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Watford Muslim Youth Centre Trust, Watford Football Club and numerous community partners who generously supported the initiative, including Watford Borough Council. Their unwavering commitment to promoting unity and fostering strong community bonds was evident throughout the day.

Watford Muslim Youth Centre Trust also expressed sincere gratitude to Watford Police, the Fire Station, My Wellbeing W3RT, Watford Women’s Centre, Everyone Active, Abbey Badminton Club, Beezee Bodies, the community, local businesses and all the volunteers and club staff who dedicated their time and effort to make the Family Fun Day a resounding success.

“As an organisation deeply rooted in the community, we are thrilled to have hosted such a successful Family Fun Day,” said Zahid Zarin, Chairman for Watford Muslim Youth Centre. “Our aim was to create an environment where people from all backgrounds could come together, enjoy themselves, and strengthen the community spirit. The event was a testament to the power of unity and the shared values that bind us all.”

Imran Khan, Secretary Trustee of Watford Muslim Youth Centre, said: “The Family Fun Day at Watford Football Club exceeded our expectations in terms of attendance and the positive impact it had on the community. We are grateful for the support and collaboration from our partners and the entire community.”

Dave Messenger, EDI Lead for Watford Football Club, added: “We were delighted to host the Family Fun Day with our partners from the Watford Muslim Youth Centre Trust and to see that so many people enjoyed the event. We look forward to further opportunities to work with the Trust in the future and value their support for our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion work at Watford FC.”
