Watford Football Club have a Data Science Masters studentship available for the 2022/23 football season in conjunction with Middlesex University.
The successful applicant will work closely with the First Team, reporting into the First Team Analysis Department. You will learn and develop within a fast-paced and, at times, demanding elite environment, as well as studying for an MSc in Sport Performance Analysis (either on campus or distance education).
Watford Football Club will provide sponsorship of the masters course fees at Middlesex University for the 2022/23 academic year (UK fees).
The student will undertake their placement and be based at Watford Football Club Training Ground in London Colney, and on occasions Vicarage Road Stadium. The hours for the position will depend on the fixture list of the teams; please note evenings and weekends hours may be required.
Students must also attend MSc lectures, either online (for the distance education course) or in-person (StoneX Stadium, London, NW4 1RL, for on-campus course).
The role would suit a graduate student looking to combine studying for a MSc and gaining Data Science/Performance Analysis experience within a high performance environment. Ideal candidates will have a science related background, i.e. computer science, mathematical or sports or an equivalent degree.

You must have:
- Graduate in a numerate degree (e.g. Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics etc).
- Experience in a programming language e.g. R or Python.
- Strong knowledge of statistics and data science.
- Experience of working with data visualisation and analysis tools (eg. Tableau).
- Experience of working with complex data sets.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate technical information, clearly & concisely.
- Passionate about problem solving through the application of data and driven to innovate and implement new ideas.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
- Must be able to commit to the position for the entire 2022/23 season.
