Bilić On João Pedro: “It Doesn’t Look Good”

By: Watford FC Staff

Head Coach Slaven Bilić awaits a full prognosis of the ankle injury suffered by forward João Pedro in the Hornets’ 2-0 defeat to Millwall, but admits he isn’t optimistic that the damage is minor.

The Brazilian was slide-tackled by Lions midfielder George Saville after 27 minutes at Vicarage Road, and while the Watford boss didn’t believe the challenge was malicious, it left João Pedro on the ground for several minutes before he headed to the sidelines.

The 21-year-old - who has scored eight goals in 20 Sky Bet Championship appearances so far this season - tried to continue and returned to the pitch, but was eventually replaced by Yáser Asprilla to avoid further aggravating the injury.

“We are going to see tomorrow, but it doesn’t look good,” Bilić said. “It didn’t look like an awful tackle, it didn’t look reckless.

“It’s the ankle ligament, and when you lose him it’s obviously hard to find another Pedro in the squad. We’ve just got to hope for the best until we hear more.”
