Promising young midfielder Luigi Gaspar has joined Watford’s Under-23 side.

The London-born 18-year-old signs for the Hornets following his departure from Premier League side Arsenal, with whom he played in the Under-18s.

Gaspar is delighted to begin his new challenge in a Watford shirt, at a new age level.

“It’s very nice to be here,” said Gaspar. “I’m very happy for me and my family and excited to get started.

“I’m very motivated, and can’t wait to get started.”

Son of former Gunners midfielder and current Technical Director Edu, Gaspar made his Arsenal Under-23 debut against West Ham United in May, having played previously in the Under-18 Premier League Professional Development League.

He credits Watford’s training ground neighbours for aiding his development, but felt it was time to move on.

“It was very good for me, coming from Brazil to a big club like Arsenal, training every day with them,” Gaspar explained. “I had a good three seasons there.

“It’s not easy to join another club but now things are getting more serious, with Under-23 football, me and my family made the choice to move.”

Prior to spending three years with the North London side, Gaspar played for Corinthians in Brazil from Under-7 level.

A creative spark in the middle of the pitch, Gaspar feels most comfortable with the ball at his feet.

“I’m a defensive midfielder but I like to play with the ball, and I like to pass,” the youngster added.
