Academy: Delyfer Joins Young Hornets

Hertfordshire-born prospect Max Delyfer has joined Watford’s Under-21 side subject to the completion of a medical, the club confirms.

The defensive midfielder arrives following a successful spell at Isthmian League side Potters Bar Town, where the 18-year-old broke into the first-team at the start of last season. Playing regularly in a men’s team environment, Delyfer was previously in the youth set-up at Arsenal.

The playmaker has spent pre-season on trial in Omer Riza’s side, impressing in a friendly fixture against Hitchin Town last week, and he feels immediately settled in his new surroundings.

“I’m absolutely over the moon. It’s a dream come true and something I’m really proud of,” said Delyfer.

“It’s been brilliant. All of the players, coaches and staff have really welcomed me and I felt at home straight away; as soon as I stepped in the door I knew this was the place for me. It’s been really successful and I’m ready to kick on now.”

Delyfer has aims to grow as a player with the Young Hornets and hopes his experience at senior level will stand him in good stead. His role in the base of midfield sees him regularly carry the ball, start attacks with his passing qualities and prevent opposition chances, utilising his physicality.

The youngster continued: “Potters Bar really helped me to get that experience in men’s football, and now I’m ready to take it into Watford and push on again.

“I’m a holding midfielder and I can play as a box-to-box midfielder as well. I like to get on the ball as much as possible, control the tempo of the game and show my passing range. I’m a strong defensive midfielder who can dominate the game.

“I’m going to try and progress as much as I can this season, do as much for the team as possible and help Watford win games!”

Welcome to Watford, Max!
