‚ÄúThe better team won‚ÄĚ - Moyes

“We had three big opportunities, but I thought the better team won.

‚ÄúWe didn‚Äôt do well enough in all the departments. We created one or two chances, and¬†I didn‚Äôt think Watford created too many clear-cut chances, but theirs were better than ours.‚ÄĚ

Silva Speaks

Marco Silva answered questions from the broadcast media after the game:

"A very good performance. We control all the match and had some very good moments.

"We changed the formation because we had some problems on right side, but the players understood really well.

"What we did today isn't really different to what we did in other games recently. The last three results didn't reflect what we did in the pitch."

6:35 PM

‚ÄúA focused performance‚ÄĚ - Cleverley

Tom Cleverley spoke to Premier League Productions after the final whistle:

"It's a big win for us, though we've not got too down because we’ve been playing well recently. Football is about results, so it's an important win.

"We kept the ball better this week, and had the luck with us. It was a focused performance and a deserved win.

"It's important to keep building and let the results take care of themselves."

6:15 PM

Hughes and Gomes on victory over Hammers

Will Hughes and Heurelho Gomes spoke to Sky Sports after the Hornets 2-0 win over West Ham:

HG: "That's what we needed, we just needed to avoid the mistakes we made in the last few games."

WH: "To get the win today and score is the icing on the cake. Thanks to Gomes helping us out with some big saves to keep the clean sheet and get the three points."

HG: "That's what I'm here for, to make the saves!"

5:57 PM - 90 MIN

FULL-TIME: Watford 2-0 West Ham United

A goal in each half from two of Watford's younger players - Will Hughes and Richarlison - was enough to secure all three points against West Ham under the lights at Vicarage Road.

Hughes netted his first, in both the Premier League and for Watford, after just 11 minutes. The creative midfielder, playing on the right of a front three, collected a loose ball and curled it past Joe Hart with his left foot.

Heurelho Gomes was the name on the home fans' lips at half-time though, after a series of spectacular close-range saves kept the Hammers at bay.

Then after an hour had been played Adrian Mariappa had a point-blank header saved to their disbelief by Hart, but the Hornets soon put that behind them.

Richarlison popped up with his fifth goal of the season just a few minutes later, the Brazilian U-20 forward sweeping past Hart after a period of extended Watford pressure.

It ends with three deserved points for the Golden Boys, as they get back to winning ways after the international break.

Arnautovic is writhing in agony on the floor here with what looks like a wrist problem. He's off, Masuaku comes on.

Hughes plays in Richarlison on the break, and the Brazilian fires low via Hart's hand to extend Watford's lead. Deserved, after a prolonged period of pressure from the Golden Boys.

Great save!

Hart denies Mariappa's header at point-blank range, doing his best impression of Gomes at the other end...

5:13 PM - 54 MIN

Doucouré lines one up from outside the area, but his sweeping shot curls wide. Unlucky.

5:12 PM - 52 MIN

First Femenía whips the ball in and Gray's first-time finish is wide of goal from a tight angle. Then West Ham's turn - Kouyate firing over with the whole goal to aim for. Big chance for the visitors.

Back underway

The second-half begins.

4:55 PM

Should Andy Carroll have two of these already?

4:47 PM

One up at the break

Will Hughes' tidy finish separates the sides at Vicarage Road.

The Hornets have been the better side in the main, Richarlison and Femenía both going close, but the Hammers forced two exceptional saves out of Heurelho Gomes towards the end of the first half in response.

This isn't done yet, and Marco Silva's men have a long way to go.

4:45 PM - 45 MIN

Wait a minute...

Gomes has just pulled off a TRIPLE save. All hail Heurelho.

4:45 PM - 45 MIN

Additional TIme

FOUR minutes added on here.

4:42 PM - 42 MIN

Save of the season?

Kouyaté is presented with one-on-one chance on goal, but Gomes manages to tip the ball - spinning - wide of the post. Incredible stuff from the Golden Boys' no.1!

4:41 PM

The moment Will Hughes scored his first ever Premier League goal - here's hoping for many more (in yellow!).

4:35 PM - 35 MIN

Yellow card

Arnautovińá goes into¬†the book for a foul on Cleverley.

4:34 PM - 33 MIN

Agonisingly close

Richarlison has a decent shot that is tipped away by Hart, the ball falls to Femenía outside the area but the wing-back drags his effort just wide of the far post - so close to a second for the Hornets!

4:30 PM

Will Hughes celebrates scoring his first goal for Watford!

4:28 PM - 28 MIN

Yellow card

Carroll is perhaps lucky to be on the pitch after three clumsy challanges in the opening half-hour - rightly booked here for a push on Richarlison.

4:10 PM - 11 MIN

Best possible start! Zeegelaar's cross isn't cleared by the Hammers. Andre Gray's shot falls to Will Hughes who reacts quickly to turn the ball home from eight yards. 1-0.

Welcome to the Premier League

Less than 10 seconds on the clock and Marvin Zeegelaar is in trouble.

A long ball is lumped cross field, and Carroll's elbow makes forceful contact with the Dutchman's face. No malice, but there's blood and it looks a painful one for the Watford debutant.

‚ÄúImportant for the fans that we perform well today‚ÄĚ - Silva

Watford Head Coach Marco Silva has been speaking to Sky Sports ahead of kick-off:

"We have 100% focus on the game. Inside our training ground nobody talk about this, it's the moment to stop and prove this now on the pitch.

"Speculation is normal - when things go well or in a bad way. It's important that it doesn't come inside our dressing room. It's important to come back as we performed well last time but didn't get the result.

"It is important for the fans that we perform well today."

3:15 PM

3:10 PM

‚ÄúWe've got to stay focused‚ÄĚ - Gray

Hornets frontman Andre Gray spoke to Sky Sports pre-match:

"It's been no different this week, it's been the same as it has been all season. The manager has been no different.

"It gives them a bit more to play for with a new manager, but it's down to us what we do and what we've worked hard for on the training pitch.

"We've got to stay focused for the whole 95 minutes today and get a result."

3:00 PM

The teams are in...

The big news to come out of the Hornets' dressing room against West Ham is a debut for wing-back Marvin Zeegelaar in place of Jose Holebas.

Adrian Mariappa joins Christian Kabasele and Miguel Britos in defence, as the Hornets revert to a back three.

2:35 PM

In The Press

Richarlison has done an extensive interview with Rob Draper of the Mail on Sunday, and says he dreaming of getting into Brazil's World Cup squad:

"At the moment this is a dream come true, playing in the Premier League. But the biggest dream would be playing in the World Cup for Brazil with great players. I have to do my best here to try to achieve that."

You can read the rest of the interview here.

2:25 PM

Trust 25 Year Anniversary

The Hornets' Community Sports and Education Trust are celebrating their 25-year anniversary this season and today's West Ham game is the designated matchday for its celebration! There's lots going on if you're coming to The Vic...

2:10 PM

Stat Attack

Cause for optimism?

The Hornets have only lost one of their last six Premier League games against West Ham (W3 D2 L1).

West Ham have just one win in their last 13 away games in the Premier League (W1 D6 L6).

Danger Man

Richarlison has been involved in six goals so far this season for the Golden Boys, more than any other Watford player (Gls 4 Ast 2). Only Harry Kane has attempted more Premier League shots than the Brazilian this season.
