“This is just the beginning” - Silva

Marco Silva spoke to BBC Match of the Day's John Roder after securing another three points on the South Coast:

"I am happy when I feel my team work like this. We played a lot of the match with quality and controlled every time the important moments. We were stronger than our opponent so deserved to win.

"It is important for the players to show confidence and shoot from outside the box. I am really happy with our attitude. It's not easy to come here and control the match.

"You always aim for perfect. We planned one big game and the players understand this. They enjoyed the match because of how much they worked. It is only three points more but good win.

"This is just the beginning. It's a very good start but really, it is just the beginning.

"The fans were amazing again today. We need the maximum from them at every game because I think they really helped our players.

"It's our third [clean sheet] in a row. Especially with the problems we have to solve with injuries, like Brighton two weeks ago, the players are coming to me with answers and that's what I want."

5:30 PM

“We need to keep going like this” - Janmaat

Daryl Janmaat was on media duty after he netted the Hornets' second:

"First of all we try to get the win. If there's an opportunity to be in a good position I will get a strike in.

"I had been warming up for 10 minutes. Saw Kaboul coming out then saw Kiko on the ground so knew I would be needed.

"We have two wins away from home now and we need to keep going like this. Manchester City at home next is a good chance to show how we are developing.

"The team is in balance. We have a lot of energy and pace going forward. Everyone is doing well."

“I am so happy for this goal” - Doucouré

Abdoulaye Doucouré spoke to Sky Sports after the final whistle:

"The ball came to me and I just hit it. I am so happy for this goal.

"I remember the goal against Southampton last season, it's so funny really.

"We work very hard in week. We show great commitment on the pitch. After you win you are happy and that's right.

"The manager gives us very good spirit. Everybody is ready to play, and he makes a good shape for us."

FULL-TIME: Southampton 0-2 Watford

Top-drawer finishes from Abdoulaye Doucouré and Daryl Janmaat - one in each half - saw the Hornets extend their unbeaten start to the Premier League season.

Watford were in control of much of the game, not at all looking like the visiting side for long periods. The pressing style implemented by Marco Silva was evident from back to front, and the hosts found it difficult to deal with.

Doucouré opened the scoring after 38 minutes, giving the Golden Boys a well-earned lead going into the break. The Frenchman gave Frazer Forster too much to do in the Saints goal as he hit a bouncing ball from 25 yards.

Two changes around the hour mark saw Adrian Mariappa and Janmaat enter the fray, with the Dutchman getting on the scoresheet within five minutes of being on the pitch, having already blocked a goal-bound effort at the other end. Janmaat hit a hopeful shot that squeezed past Forster and gave the visitors some breathing space.

Overall another perfect away day for the boys in yellow, sitting in 4th place as it stands.

Just over

There's a bit of unease around St Mary's at just how on top the Hornets are towards the end of this first-half. Doucouré again from the edge of the box, a yard or two over this time.

There's half-time. Great half, Hornets!

3:45 PM - 45 MIN

HALF-TIME: Southampton 0-1 Watford

A stunning strike from fans' favourite Abdoulaye Doucouré separates the sides at St. Mary's as we head into the break.

Watford had been well on top in the game before the Frenchman struck just seven minutes before half-time, firing the bouncing ball into the back of the net.

Richarlison has been getting some special attention from the Saints defence after some neat touches and Doucouré's midfield partner Nathaniel Chalobah has been at the centre of everything good for the Golden Boys.

So far it's looking like a repeat performance of the Hornets' last trip to the South Coast.

3:38 PM - 38 MIN

What a goal! Not unlike Etienne Capoue's goal at Bournemouth, Doucoure lets the ball bounce and arrows it inside Forster's left-hand post.

Away fans erupt into a rendition of 🎵Wooooah, Abdoulaye Doucoure 🎵

Silva on Saints

Watford Head Coach Marco Silva spoke with Sky Sports' Dickie Davies prior to kick-off:

"It is more or less same team. But we had to change things with Britos' ban.

"The most important thing is our ideas and how we will play a tough game today.

"[Bournemouth] Was a very good day but is in the past now. We would like to [replicate this] if we can against a good team with individual quality. Only a strong Watford will have a chance to get the three points.

"They are a good team with good ideas. We need to have good tactical behaviour and organisation and work to our plans as a team."

"This is always a tough place to come, they play good football so we are expecting a tough afternoon.

"We've had six players away but we've had two weeks good training, we've started well and we are confident of a good performance."
