“It's Very Important To Bounce Back” - Chalobah

Nathaniel Chalobah spoke to Premier League Productions about this afternoon's loss to Manchester City:

"It's a very disappointing result. They are very strong, and playing with a lot of confidence. We tried to keep it solid but they were just too strong today.

"A few decisions didn't go our way, but it's very important to bounce back and stay positive.

"We acknowledge we played a very strong team. We will analyse the game and go again next week."

“Important Day For Us To Learn” - Silva

Marco Silva spoke to the broadcast media after the final whistle:

"Congratulations to City.

"It was an important day for us to learn. We learn every day.

"When we win or lose we must analyse the match. Nothing will change.

"It's our obligation as a team to look forward and prepare well for the next match."

5:20 PM

“They Were Better” - Janmaat

Daryl Janmaat spoke to Sky Sports about a disappointing afternoon for the Hornets:

"It was a hard day for us. They were better and controlled the game. It's a bit of a shame that there were two offside goals - that was clear.

"For me they are the top favourites to win the league. You know from the first minute it will be hard game."

4:50 PM - 90 MIN

FULL-TIME: Watford 0-6 Manchester City

The final whistle ends an utterly forgettable afternoon at the Vic.

Sergio Agüero opened the scoring in the 27th minute after he headed in a Kevin de Bruyne free-kick, before doubling his tally just four minutes later with a tap in. Goal-scorer then turned provider, as Agüero played Gabriel Jesus in behind, with the Brazilian cooly slotting in despite suspicions of offside, to give the visitors a three-goal cushion at the break.

The second-half didn't get much better for the Golden Boys, with Nicolas Otamendi heading in a fourth, before Agüero completed his hat-trick with the help of goal-line technology. Raheem Sterling then added a sixth with a penalty in the 88th minute.

A headed chance in either half - from Richarlison and Étienne Capoue respectively - was the closest the hosts came to scoring other than a speculative André Carrillo effort that went just wide of the post, with Ederson never really called into action in the City goal.

It's been a really, really tough test for Watford, and while they may have come up short against a side who could be crowned Premier League champions this season, they will hope to respond in the best possible fashion away at Swansea next weekend.

Technology comes into play, Aguero's deft finish creeping off the post and just over the line.

Richarlison looked to have been fouled in the build-up, but the decisions just have not gone Watford's way today.

Officials in the spotlight

Anthony Taylor and his team aren't making any friends at Vicarage Road.

Nathaniel Chalobah goes down in the box after catching a boot in the midriff from Nicolas Otamendi, play allowed to go on seeing City go close on the break.

The linesman then gives an offside against Andre Gray, no different to the decisions ignored for two of City's first-half goals.

3:46 PM - 45 MIN

HALF-TIME: Watford 0-3 Manchester City

Despite their best efforts, goals have been raining down on Watford this afternoon.

The game started fair evenly with both sides probing each other early on, but the visitors stepped up their forward play and subsequently scored three goals in 10 minutes, putting the Hornets to the sword.

First Sergio Agüero headed in a Kevin de Bruyne free-kick, before adding a second after a David Silva pass evaded had Heurelho Gomes in wet conditions, allowing the Argentine a tap-in at the far post.

Goal-scorer then turned provider, as Agüero played Gabriel Jesus in behind, with the Brazilian cooly slotting in off the post despite suspicions of offside.

Watford have it all to do now in the second half if they are to have any chance of extending their unbeaten start in the Premier League.

More controversy. Jesus looks offside as Aguero pokes the ball through, but no flag is waved and the Brazilian fires in off the post. This seems harsh on the Hornets.

And another...

Jesus wins a battle with Janmaat on the left and finds Silva inside the area, his square ball squirms under Gomes' hand leaving Aguero with the easiest of finishes from two yards. No doubt about that one.

Controversial. Referee Anthony Taylor waves away what looked like a clear handball, before City win a free-kick inside the Watford half.

Kevin De Bruyne whips an oustanding ball into the box, and Sergio Aguero flicks the ball home with his head for 0-1.

City shading it

The Hornets are running hard in the pouring rain at Vicarage Road but as you might expect Manchester City are bossing the ball. Silva and Mendy have had efforts blocked and saved.

“We Are Happy” - Silva

Marco Silva spoke prior to kick-off with Sky Sports' David Craig:

"Of course we are happy. It's good to see how we've started. But it's true it's only four matches, and they are in the past. We have a tough, tough game today.

"It's a good opportunity to take points. Better to be at home against this team.

"We respect them but must keep focus in our team and our work. They have key players but we must use our strengths too."

2:10 PM

“We Have The Motivation To Carry On” - Gomes

Hornets no.1 Heurelho Gomes spoke to Sky Sports pre-match:

"It's great [to have the chance to go top] but first we need to play the game. Our focus is to play against a very good side and we are ready for that.

"We need to be aggressive when we can and we know we are facing a very good team who like to keep the ball.

"It's just eight points from four games so we need to continue to go game by game, and we have the motivation to carry on in the best way."

TEAM NEWS

There are two changes for the Golden Boys this afternoon as Marco Silva names his side to face Manchester City.

Younès Kaboul is absent through injury, with Adrian Mariappa drafted in to replace him, having come on in place of the Frenchman at St. Mary's last weekend.

Kiko Femenía is unlucky to miss out, having returned to training too late to feature in the squad, but Daryl Janmaat comes into the side off the back off his goal-scoring substitute appearance against Southampton.

Elsewhere new boys Molla Wagué and Marvin Zeegelaar make the matchday-18 for the first time, and Roberto Pereyra returns to the squad after coming off injured in the opening day draw with Liverpool.

Pep Guardiola meanwhile makes one change to his line-up from the Citizen's Premier League win over Liverpool.

He names Raheem Sterling in place of Danilo, in what could be reversion to four at the back after the England winger's return from suspension, unless Kyle Walker slots in at right centre-half.

HORNETS: Gomes (GK)(c); Janmaat, Mariappa, Kabasele, Holebas; Doucouré, Chalobah; Carrillo, Cleverley, Richarlison, Gray.

Subs: Karnezis (GK), Wagué, Zeegelaar, Capoue, Pereyra, Success, Deeney.

CITY: Ederson (GK); Walker, Stones, Otamendi, Mendy; Fernandinho; Sterling, De Bruyne, D. Silva (c); Agüero, Jesus.

Subs: Bravo (GK), Mangala, Danilo, Delph, Gündogan, B. Silva, Sané.

Pundit's Preview

BBC Radio 5 Live's Pat Nevin is commentating on the game this afternoon and had this to say ahead of kick-off:

"I suppose the expectations aren't hugely high because of what Manchester City are capable of, so they [Watford] can go out and enjoy themselves.

"Go out and enjoy it Hornets and see if you can sting Man[chester] City!

"There are sometimes games where there is less expectation - the game against Liverpool showed Watford could score goals - and if there's a weakness at City, it's at the back."

ICYMI: Silva | “Nothing Changes In Our Way”

Marco Silva said in his press conference that Watford's approach will not change when they face Manchester City this afternoon:

"It's a big game for us. It's a big challenge for us as a club and nothing changes in our way. We work in the same way, like we prepared for the first match."
