Matchday live

5:45 PM

Over and out.

That's all folks.

Brighton & Hove Albion next up at the Amex stadium, before we return to the Vic on Boxing Day.

5:30 PM

“We need to keep fighting” - Silva

Marco Silva spoke to BBC Match of the Day after the final whistle:

"This result is really bad for us. It was a tough afternoon.

"We can't change the last results but we can change the next ones. We need to keep fighting and working hard.

"We react to a bad situation again. We need to solve these issues.

"I don't want to talk about the officials."

5:15 PM

“We have to do better” - Doucouré

Abdoulaye Doucouré spoke to Sky Sports after the final whistle:

"We are very disappointed about the result. Everyone is upset. We know we can do better. We concede two early goals and the red card didn't help us. We have to play the game, we made mistakes and we have to do better.

"I'm always happy to score but I'm disappointed about the loss. I want to improve, we have to move forward as a team."

All over at The Vic

Disastrous, frustrating, luckless. Watford comprehensively beaten at Vicarage Road.

Doucoure fouls Depoitre and Mooy steps up to rifle home the penalty.

Hornets giving it everything

Watford are well on top now. Another goal and this really does get interesting.

What a hit!

'Doucs' pulls one back in spectacular fashion.

Yellow card

4:30 PM - 68 MIN

When Abdoulaye Doucoure hits them, they stay hit. This is a pearler.

The ball comes out from a corner, and after one bounce the Frenchman rifles the ball past the motionless Lossl. Hope?

Changes for both sides

Van la Parra is replaced by Danny Williams for the visitors, while Andre Gray comes on in place of Capoue for the Hornets.

4:20 PM - 61 MIN

Red card

Hogg is late on Richarlison and it's enough to earn him a second yellow card. Not the return he would have wanted.

Holebas does well to challenge Hadergjonaj, but clashes heads with the Huddersfield man and goes down.

Depoitre steams through and powers past Gomes. Thoroughly awful day at The Vic so far. The Hornets haven't been at all at their best, but luck certainly hasn't been with them either.

4:06 PM - 46 MIN

Back underway

Huddersfield get us going again. You've got to have faith, right?

3:55 PM

Étienne Capoue tussles with former Watford man Jonathan Hogg.

3:50 PM - 45 MIN

HALF-TIME: Watford 0-2 Huddersfield Town

A half to forget.

Two goals and a man down, with a few questionable decisions from the officials mean the Hornets face an uphill battle in the second period if they are to get anything from this game.

Elias Kachunga opened the scoring after just six minutes, even though there appeared to be not one, but two offsides in the build-up to his goal.

The Hornets then had a couple of chances in quick succession, with Aaron Mooy having to clear off the line and Richarlison narrowly missing, before the Terriers went down the other end and doubled their lead through the Australian midfielder.

Things got even worse when Troy Deeney was then sent off - very harshly - for a foul on Colin Quaner.

Let's hope we have something to be more positive about come the final whistle.

Substitution Huddersfield Town

3:43 PM

Richarlison leaves two Huddersfield players in his wake as he runs forward with the ball.

3:40 PM - 41 MIN

Yellow card

Doucouré is booked for a foul on the edge of the box. Referee Michael Oliver is not the fans' favourite person right now...

3:37 PM - 38 MIN

Ruled out...

Richarlison chips the ball over Lössl into the back of the net following a free-kick, but his goal is chalked off for an offside.

3:36 PM - 36 MIN

Yellow card

Hogg gets the runaround from Carrillo and resorts to pulling the winger back.

3:32 PM - 33 MIN

Red card

Deeney is dismissed for a foul on Quaner. The replays make it look exceptionally harsh. Watford down to ten men for the third game in a row.

3:30 PM

Daryl Janmaat looks for options down the line.

3:30 PM - 30 MIN

Marco's not waiting around. Mariappa is sacrificed and Pereyra comes on as Watford search for a way back in. Hornets line-up 4-2-3-1 now.

3:25 PM

André Carrillo drives past Chris Löwe down the right.

3:23 PM - 23 MIN

Oh dear. 0-2.

The Hornets only have themselves to blame for this one. Really, really poor defending.

Holebas completely loses Quaner down the left, and the Huddersfield man whips in a ball, missed by Mariappa, that Mooy bundles in. All to do now.

Double chance!

Mooy heads Holebas' corner off the line, before the Greek defender delivers the ball, inswinging, back towards the far post.

Richarlison gets on the end of it but a second movement of the ball on the way down means his shot rises over the bar. So unlucky.

The Hornets are getting closer to an equaliser though.

3:18 PM - 18 MIN

Substitution Huddersfield Town

3:17 PM - 17 MIN

Kachunga stretchered off

Shame for the goalscorer, who was causing all sorts of problems for Watford.

Tom Ince comes on to boos from the home fans - he's hurt us in the past.

3:14 PM - 14 MIN

The flag is up...

Could have done with that a few minutes ago, if we're honest.

The ball pinballs to the back-post where Kachunga is free two yards out, but this time linesman Dan Cook does call offside. Jeers from the crowd.

3:06 PM - 6 MIN

Terriers lead

The Hornets haven't really got going here, and Huddersfield have been rewarded for making the early headway.

Watford fail to clear their lines, and Kachunga smashes the ball in at the backpost from no more than a couple of centimeters.

What's more annoying, is that the Huddersfield number nine is clearly offside.

“We want a result at home” - Silva

Marco Silva spoke to Sky Sports prior to kick-off:

"It is our obligation to do everything to win the game. Every time we play this is our goal. We respect our opponent. We want a result at home, in front of our fans.

"Everybody is in a good condition to play. We had a small problem with Roberto Pereyra after the Crystal Palace game so he is on the bench and ready to help the team if we need him.

"It is important to play with good pace and good intensity. We don't change anything and we try everything to run the match."

2:15 PM

“We need to keep pushing” - Gomes

Heurelho Gomes spoke to Sky Sports pre-match:

"Our mentality is right, we need to keep pushing and get back to our winning ways. This is a great day to do it.

"We need to defend better to fight for the points but the boys know this. We played at home against most of the best teams from last season so far. We know today is a good day to improve at home."

2:00 PM

The Teams

Just the one change for the Golden Boys, then.

It's an enforced one, with Tom Cleverley suspended owing to his red card against Crystal Palace midweek - Etienne Capoue comes in for his first start since Stoke on October 28th.

On the bench, Jerome Sinclair and Stefano Okaka return in place of Kiko Femenía (hamstring) and Isaac Success.

For the visitors, Tommy Smith misses out with illness. Tom Ince, a thorn in the Hornets' side in the past, drops to the bench, as does Danny Williams. Hadergjonaj, Quaner and van La Parra all come in.

HORNETS | Gomes (GK); Mariappa, Prödl, Kabasele; Janmaat, Doucoure, Capoue, Holebas; Carrillo, Richarlison; Deeney (C).

Subs | Karnezis (GK), Wagué, Sinclair, Gray, Watson, Okaka, Pereyra.

TERRIERS | Lössl (GK); Hogg, Kachunga, Mooy, Löwe, van La Parra, Depoitre, Quaner, Zanka, Schindler, Hadergjonaj.

Subs | Coleman (GK), Malone, Whitehead, Cranie, Williams, Ince, Mounié.

Wagner on Watford

Huddersfield Head Coach David Wagner was very complimentary when speaking about the Hornets in his pre-match press conference:

"Outside the big six, I think Watford and Leicester are the best. They have speed, size, creativity; they are a proper Premier League team.

"This changes nothing for us though - we want to go there and win!"

Richarlison is "okay to play" according to Hornets Head Coach Marco Silva, “When you have lots of games in a row it’s normal to have fatigue in some players. Richarlison is only [suffering from] fatigue.” he said.

Unfortunately Kiko Femenía (hamstring) is unavailable after coming off late in the game at Selhurst Park.
