Matchday live

10:20 PM

Silva rues missed chances

“The game is over only when the referee blows his whistle. After the way we performed tonight, we must go home with three points. When we have the chances, we must kill the match.”

9:50 PM

Heartbreak

Oh, football. The Hornets have been on the right side of late drama this season and tonight it's their turn to be on the receiving end.

It all went downhill very quickly from the moment Tom Cleverley was shown a second yellow card on 87 minutes. Moments later, Sako forced the ball home at the second attempt after a double save from Gomes.

And in stoppage time Sako wasn't stopped on the Palace left, his cross guided home by substitute McAthur to break the travelling fans in half. Out of nowhere, if we're honest, but again game management proves the Hornets' downfall.

Second yellow as Cleverley stops another Palace counter. He knows. No real complaints.

Naughty this one. van Aanholt goes right through the back of Pereyra. Could have been red.

He doesn't like it, but Milivojevic is first into the book for a foul on Doucoure.

9:16 PM - 62 MIN

Nothing to report

It's been far more cagey after the break. Palace are struggling to break through the Hornets back-line, the Hornets look slightly less inclined to bomb forward on the break. 0-1.

Back underway

No changes for either side at the break. Same again please, Hornets!

8:50 PM - 45 MIN

One up at the break

What a game we've got here. Janmaat's early opener sees Watford a goal ahead at the interval.

After that it's been end-to-end, the Hornets capitalising on Palace mistakes to break forward, the hosts winning free-kicks galore as the Golden Boys looks to get tight to the always threatening Zaha, Townsend and Loftus-Cheek.

Zaha appeals...

... Mason says no. Prodl come across to deal with Zaha and edges him out of play. Defended perfectly by the big Austrian.

8:29 PM - 29 MIN

Chances at both ends

Janmaat leaps to nod the ball away from a ready-to-pounce Benteke, then Palace send another header just wide.

Cabaye then loses possession in midfield. Richarlison breaks into the box, and his cross is flicked, vitally, by the toe of Dann, enough to affect the stride of Deeny whose shot goes wide.

Almost!

Carrillo dances inside and cuts the ball back to Richarlison, whose shot is headed off the line by Tomkins. Top start from the Hornets.

8:04 PM - 4 MIN

What a start!

Richarlison curls a beautiful ball to the back post, Janmaat takes his time and rockets a header past Speroni in the Palace goal. Eagles stunned!

For Palace, Mamadou Sakho is injured so Scott Dan is back in the starting line-up. Christian Benteke retains his place after the weekend's penalty shenanigans.

Spring in his step...

Speaking from the training ground ahead of tonight's game, skipper Troy Deeney says he's in a good place on the pitch after early season injury and suspension frustration.

“I’m enjoying it, I’m enjoying playing football again,” he explained.

“There are times when football becomes a bit stressful, but I’m a happy-go-lucky guy. Now I’ve got my mojo back, I’m enjoying it and ready to keep going now.”
