“We are frustrated” - Doucouré

Abdoulaye Doucouré spoke to Sky Sports about mixed emotions after the game:

"Today we are disappointed with this loss, we played a very good game. We fight with Chelsea, but we didn't score at the big moments, they are a big team.

"We have to be happy how we played and look forward. I'm happy to score to help the team.

"But we are frustrated because we don't score [at key moments] and you know against a team like Chelsea they can come back stronger."

3:00 PM

“I am really proud of how we played” - Silva

Marco Silva spoke to Sky Sports about the defeat to Chelsea:

"It is a really unfair result. It didn't reflect the match and how our team play. We reacted well to the goal to Chelsea. It was a balanced first half. Chelsea then start to play on the counter attack and wait for any mistakes.

"The result doesn't reflect what everybody saw on the pitch today. I am really proud of how we played - there is frustration today.

"He [Richarlison] has all the credit. He is in the position to score those chances. This is most important. He will score more goals in the future."

2:45 PM

“We showed we can compete” - Kabasele

Christian Kabasele spoke to the broadcast media after the final whistle:

"When we look at the result it's a bit too much, we had the chances to win the game. Against a big team every half chance can be a goal and that's what happened today.

"We were confident we could achieve something. It's a shame but we showed we can compete with every team in this league.

"They took their chances, though the first goal wasn't a corner but they scored in good moments for them.

"We want to be safe as soon as possible, getting to 40 points is the first objective.

"We must win next week at home and we will work hard this week to get these three points back."

2:27 PM - 90 MIN

FULL-TIME: Chelsea 3-2 Watford

Watford were unlucky to fall to late goals from César Azpilicueta and Michy Batshuayi, as they saw their unbeaten run on the road come to an end despite a spirited performance at Stamford Bridge.

Strikes from Pedro, Abdoulaye Doucouré, Roberto Pereyra and Batshuayi produced an entertaining fixture for neutrals, with the scores tied at 2-2 before Azpilicueta netted in the 87th minute and Batshuayi popped up again in stoppage time.

The Hornets had played their way back into the game after an early goal from Pedro, with Doucouré scoring with the last kick of the first half, and Pereyra adding a second just after the break.

But the hosts poured forward in search of an equaliser, finding it in the form of substitute Batshuayi.

The Golden Boys had three clear chances to put the game to bed in the second-half, but weren't clinical enough in front of goal and were punished for their profligacy, as the Blues scored twice late on.

Ultimately the hosts ran out the winners but this was far from a one-sided encounter, despite the final score reading 4-2.

Game over

Britos carelessly loses possession on the edge of the Watford box, Chelsea play in Batshuayi who dinks the ball over Gomes to finish it. Full-time at the Bridge and it could have been so different.

The Hornets have given too much space to Chelsea from crosses all afternoon, and they've been punished here.

Pedro whips in a brilliant ball from the right, and substitute Batshuayi gets across his man to glance a header past Gomes. 2-2.

We've certainly got a game on our hands here. Both sides are pushing for the next goal.

Watford have had Chelsea running scared at points in the second half but with the quality they have on the pitch, they're by no means out of this.

GOAL! SCENES AT THE BRIDGE!

After Richarlison manages to miss an open goal, moments later the Brazilian makes amends.

A precise inside ball to Pereyra is delightfully received, and the Argentine gives Courtois the eyes to bury the ball in the back of the net.

HALF-TIME: Chelsea 1-1 Watford

Watford are the masters of late goals!

Abdoulaye Doucouré netted in first-half injury time to level the match after Pedro had opened the scoring in stunning - albeit controvesial - fashion.

A short corner, that replays have shown should have been a goal-kick, allowed Pedro to rattle in off the post after just 12 minutes.

Heurelho Gomes and a resolute Watford backline managed to keep the hosts at bay for the rest of the half, with the Brazilian impressing in particular with a string of fine saves.

Tom Cleverley had a good free-kick from the edge of the area saved by Thibaut Courtois as Watford grew back into the game after going behind.

But Doucouré sends the Golden Boys back into the dressing room at half-time with something to build on, as he capitalised on a loose ball in the area, squeezing the ball in at the near post with virtually the last kick of the half.

Goal!

Level!

The last kick of the half sees the Hornets go in on terms.

After weathering the Chelsea storm after the opener, Watford have grown into the game. With a desperate long throw ahead of John Moss' imminent half-time whistle, the ball runs loose and Abdoulaye Doucouré, sweet as you like, drills it inside the near-post.

This team just don't know when to quit! Get in!

Pedro close

The Hornets have lost the control they had before the goal and possession is being given away too readily against a team of Chelsea's quality.

Pedro finds space again in the middle of the pitch, and fires an arrowing shot just wide. 1-0.

Chelsea lead

Again it's a short corner from the hosts and this time it does lead to a goal. Pedro receives the ball on the edge of the box from Hazard and whips a pearler in off the far post.

It really was a fine strike, but Watford feel aggrieved that the corner was given at all after Hazard looked to have run the ball out under pressure from Britos. Replays confirm it should have been a goal kick.

A neat interchange between Deeney and Pereyra sees the Hornets win their first corner of the game, with Chelsea just about clearing the Argentine's low ball into the danger area.

“We will play without fear” - Silva

Hornets Head Coach Marco Silva fronted up to the Sky Sports cameras ahead of kick-off:

"It is important that everyone understands they are a champion.

"What we are doing is giving us confidence.

"We will come here with respect and be humble, but we will play without fear as well."

12:00 PM

“We have to give everything” - Britos

Miguel Britos spoke to the broadcast media pre-match:

"Our confidence is good, always when you are doing well your confidence is high. We are working in the same way from the first day.

"I think we did very well in pre-season with new ideas, new staff, new players and we have done very well.

"We know we have to give everything, because we know they are a very good team with great quality."

Team News

Marco Silva makes just the one change from last week's win over Arsenal as the Hornets face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Captain Troy Deeney comes in to lead the forward line, replacing Andre Gray, as the Hornets look to continue their strong form in the Premier League.

Chelsea name a quality-laden XI despite injuries disrupting Antonio Conte's preparations.

Victor Moses and N'Golo Kante both miss out, but David Luiz and Tiémoué Bakayoko are fit to start for the Blues after knocks.

HORNETS: Gomes (GK); Mariappa, Kabasele, Britos; Femenia, Doucouré, Cleverley, Holebas; Pereyra, Richarlison; Deeney (C).

Subs: Karnezis (GK), Janmaat, Wagué, Capoue, Watson, Carrillo, Gray.

Injury News

One man that definitely won't be featuring against his old club this afternoon is Nathaniel Chalobah. The former Chelsea man is out on the sidelines alongside Craig Cathcart and Isaac Success.

Younes Kaboul and Sebastian Prödl are back in training but it is perhaps too soon for them to return to the matchday squad.

The Opposition View

Antonio Conte is confident but cautious of the visiting Hornets ahead of today's game.

‘Watford are doing very well, they had a really good transfer market and strengthened the squad very well,’ said Conte, speaking to chelseafc.com

‘For sure, tomorrow the game will be very tough because Watford are a good team, they are in a good position in the table and have enthusiasm. But we are playing at home and after two defeats in the league we want to come back and win.
