Haji Wright scored twice as Coventry came from behind to beat Watford at Vicarage Road.

The Hornets started superbly and thoroughly deserved to go in front thanks to Ryan Porteous' second goal in as many games.

It could, and perhaps should, have been more but Wright levelled from the spot to send the teams in all square at the break and then won the game in the second-half.

Defeat means the Hornets have now failed to win in four Sky Bet Championship matches, as well as nine at home since the win over Norwich City on November 28.

Valérien Ismaël made three changes from Wednesday night’s home draw against Swansea City as the unwell Jake Livermore, injured Ken Sema and Vakoun Bayo all missed out.

Giorgi Chakvetadze was rewarded for his impressive midweek performance from the bench with a start, with Ismaël Koné and Edo Kayembe also coming into the team.

Daniel Bachmann kept his place in goal after regaining the gloves against the Swans, while Emmanuel Dennis started up front.

As early as the third minute, Jake Bidwell curled an effort which evaded the far post with Bachmann diving at full stretch.

At the other end, Kayembe’s low drive through a crowd of bodies forced Bradley Collins to get down low and make a one-handed save.

From there Watford gained the assendency while attacking the Rookery End, with a series of crosses asking questions of the Coventry defence.

Chakvetadze’s threatening delivery nearly found Yáser Asprilla for the opener as Vicarage Road found its voice in the early going.

A thumping first-time volley from Kayembe from a Coventry headed clearance was blocked by Bidwell in the box, and Koné’s attempt at a placed finish went wide of the left post as the Hornets continued their dominance.

Ryan Andrews tried his luck from range after turning inside his man, but his shot was well wide of the target.

The full-back then did manage to test Collins from a similar position but the effort lacked power and rolled into the keeper’s hands.

On 20 minutes, the goal Watford thoroughly deserved arrived as Porteous added to his equaliser against Swansea.

Andrews delivered a long throw and the Scotsman looped a header over the top of Collins to make the early pressure count.

A yellow card for captain Wesley Hoedt, which will mean he faces a two-match ban for 10 bookings, was a rare low point in the first 30 minutes and Wright then thumped a shot straight at Bachmann as the Sky Blues looked for a leveller.

The Hornets did not ease-off with Kayembe ending another positive passing move by clearing the crossbar.

Watford were good value for more goals but the hosts allowed the visitors back into the game from the spot after conceding possession.

Josh Eccles nutmegged Porteous and was brought down by Bachmann as he darted in on the keeper, and Wright made no mistake from the spot despite the Austrian diving the correct way.

Ellis Simms, fresh from two hat-tricks in three games, volleyed over the bar via a deflection for the visitors as the half ended level.

Chakvetadze, the victim of a crunching challenge towards the end of the half by Bidwell, had to be replaced at the break by Bayo.

This forced a change of positioning, with the substitute going up-front and Dennis switching to the left wing.

Watford again started the half well and Kayembe’s neat through-ball to Bayo was only stopped by the offside flag.

Koné bent a shot just wide after a horizontal run before Dennis was replaced by Matheus Martins.

An Asprilla free-kick was headed on target by Hoedt but straight at Collins, and the Colombian then had an effort on goal himself as he skipped inside and forced the keeper into a low save at his near post.

It was a positive moment but the Hornets suddenly trailed after Wright was picked out in space from Eccles’ pass.

The American had time to take a touch before driving a low finish past Bachmann and into the corner of the net.

Eccles fired off target and Wright couldn’t get a clean connection when under pressure from Porteous as Coventry looked for a third.

Ismaël opted to bring on Tom Ince for Koné as Watford looked for a way back, with Martins aiming a free-kick into the wall.

Asprilla was then withdrawn for Mileta Rajović before Kayembe hooked a shot off target.

With the game entering five minutes of added time, another Martins free-kick went dangerously through the area but no Watford player was able to convert.

A cross then narrowly went over Bayo's head as the Hornets slipped to defeat.
