You Ask 'Em: Kiko Femenía Fans' Q&A

By: Watford FC Staff

Spanish full-back Kiko Femenía answers questions sent in by supporters on social media, in a Q&A first published in Watford FC matchday programme The Hornet last season...

Favourite player growing up? (adamjohn7737)

“Cristiano Ronaldo, because I used to watch a lot of games and videos of him when he used to play for Manchester United. I followed the Premier League a lot when I was young, and I always thought it was special to watch him playing. I played for Real Madrid B and sometimes got the chance to train with him for the first team, which was amazing.”

Who is the best player you’ve played with in your career? (aran_15_)

“I’ve had many so it’s not easy to pick just one, but ever since I’ve moved to the UK I’ve been very impressed with Will Hughes. He’s a special player and very good technically. Also Deulofeu, who I had the chance to play with at Barcelona and Watford. They are my two.”

Who is the best player you have ever played against? (scott_hw99)

“Again, I would say there are many to choose from, but I would have to say Sadio Mané from Liverpool and Neymar, who I played in the Copa del Rey final, are the best I’ve played against.”

What career would you have taken had it not been for football? (adamjohn7737)

“It’s not easy to say, but I think I would definitely have done something related to football. I would have loved to have taught children how to play football at a school or academy.”

What have been the lowest and proudest moments of your career? (aran_15_)

“The worst moment for me was when I ended up without a team after leaving Real Madrid when I was about 20 or 21 years old. As for the best moment, there are many but if I had to choose one it would have to be when I got promoted to La Liga with Hércules, which is the club of my city and it was also my first year as a professional player.”

Favourite stadium you've played at in England apart from Vicarage Road? (@WatfordHero)

“I would say Anfield. The atmosphere in the stadium is amazing and it is a very historical place. Everyone in the world talks about Anfield and when I was there, I was really impressed. It was like it wasn’t reality.”

What has been your favourite moment so far at Watford? (adamjohn7737)

“I think the FA Cup semi-final when we beat Wolves was the best game in my life because of everything that happened; being 2-0 down and then the comeback with Troy’s penalty in the very last second, and then to win in extra-time. It was the best moment of my career. Playing in the FA Cup final was also a proud moment, despite the result.”

Which part of your game have you improved whilst at Watford? (Chris Faires)

“Since I have come to England, I feel I have improved in many aspects of the game. I have always tried to pick out something from every manager that I’ve had, so it is not easy to say whether it is more defensively or in the attacking phase, but it’s a kind of process which has been going on.”

What is it about the club and town you most like? (Tony Fernandez)

“In terms of the club, we have everything we need at the training ground and the facilities are amazing compared to other clubs I played for when I was in Spain. I also really love the people and the area. I live in Barnet and it is very quiet, so it’s the perfect place for me and my family.”

How close were you to leaving in the summer? (Amanda Simpson)

“It was very sad to get relegated from the Premier League, this is something nobody wants to happen, but to be honest I was always focused on Watford.”

Besides Sarr, who is faster than you over 100 metres in the squad? (Alan WFC)

“Haha, I don’t know! I think we have many people who are fast, because in the Premier League and the Championship you have to be quick in order to adapt to the game.”

How unhappy are you with your FIFA pace of just 75? (Joemegainey)

“I think this is fine; I am happy with this!”

Why do you always have holes in your socks? (Stuart Bower)

“Sometimes football socks can be very tight, especially if your calves are muscular. I noticed that Kyle Walker from Manchester City kept putting holes in his socks because he kept having problems in terms of pain, and ever since I’ve started doing it the pain I experienced has not been there anymore. I must say, it is always the same socks; I don’t get a new pair each game and cut them up every time!”

Which side of the pitch do you feel most comfortable playing on? (Justin Beattie)

“Obviously I prefer playing on the right because that is where I have played throughout my career and it is more natural with some of my movements, but the most important thing is to be able to help the team, so the left is absolutely fine if it’s useful for the team.”

What’s your relationship with Ngakia like? (Edward Haines)

“We have a very good relationship, like I do with all of my teammates. He is a very good player who is still young, so there are always things to improve, but he has performed well this season and it is always good to have competition for a place in the team.”

Do you miss Deulofeu? (geri_deulofeu9_fans)

“I miss him a lot. Our bond is very close because we have known each other for a long time. We are both Spanish, our wives are very close and we have both had babies very recently, so as well as having a friend it is like having a family relationship. Unfortunately in football you might be here one day and somewhere else tomorrow, and that is just the nature of the game.”
