Getting To Know: Prince Sikiru

By: Watford FC Staff

The academy question-and-answer series shines a light on some of the best upcoming talent at Watford, quizzing a selection of Young Hornets about their journey in and outside of football.

Next to take on the questions is highly-rated midfielder Prince Sikiru.

The 16-year-old, who joined the Hornets in 2017, is a first-year scholar who features regularly for Charlie Daniels’ Under-18s side.

How would you describe your playing style?
I can play in lots of different positions, including left wing and central attacking midfield. On the wing, I like to run at players and get involved in one-versus-ones. In midfield, I like to get on the ball and get into good positions. I’m a skilful type of player. I look up to Bukayo Saka and I try to take aspects from his game and put it into my own.

Your footballing idol?
I would probably say Ronaldinho; the way he made the game entertaining and fun to watch. Every time you watch his matches you think how amazing he was. He took pride in his game and was an excellent player.

Biggest influence?
My mum has helped me a lot, driving me to places and being there for me when I needed her. She is the person who has been a huge influence on me, I would say. She does everything for me.

Most talented teammate?
I’d say Michael Adu-Poku. He is a good player to play with and you know he will get you goals. When he plays, and when you play with him, he is so entertaining. If you get the ball to him, he will give it back to you. In the second-year scholars, I would say Tobi Adeyemo. He’s a great player and is a really good personality within the group. He helps me a lot.

Favourite football memory?
When I was originally on trial here in 2016, I remember being really free on the ball and expressing myself so much. That was a really good memory. Also, coming on for the Under-18s last season as an Under-16 was a proud moment for me.

Your aims for the future?
This season I want to try and get into the FA Youth Cup team, get more minutes with the Under-21s and get opportunities to train with the first-team.

Best advice you’ve received?
Armand Kavaja, one of my coaches, told me that being a trustworthy player will get you further than being a talented player. That has stuck with me.

Your job if you weren’t a footballer?
I would want to be an entrepreneur. I’d create a brand and make a business around it.

How would you rate yourself on FIFA?
Pace: 85 - I have good acceleration and over 20 metres I’m quick!
Shooting: 88 - I work on shooting a lot and I’m the top scorer in the Under-17s.
Passing: 90 - I’m not too bad at passing.
Dribbling: 95 - I’m probably one of the best dribblers; it’s all I’m doing in training.
Defending: 65 - I don’t do too much work on it, I’m more of an attacker.
Physicality: 80 - I’m not the strongest in my age group, but I can hold my own.
OVERALL: 88
