Getting To Know: Ezio Touray

By: Watford FC Staff

The academy question-and-answer series shines a light on some of the best upcoming talent at Watford, quizzing a selection of Young Hornets about their journey in and outside of football.

Next to take on the questions is highly-rated forward Ezio Touray.

The 20-year-old joined the Young Hornets in January 2023 and has featured regularly for the Under-21s since arriving at Vicarage Road, alongside taking part in first-team training.

How would you describe your playing style?
I’ve played as both a striker and a number 10. As a striker, I like to hold up the ball and run in-behind because I can be both strong and quick. Big parts of my game are shooting, passing, heading and running.

Your footballing idol?
Thierry Henry has always been someone who I have looked up to. He was really quick and strong, knew what he was doing and knew where the goal was. His finishing was just really natural. I also really like Paul Pogba because when he is on top form, his vision and passing is just unreal.

Biggest influence?
I would say my parents. They have pushed me to get into a better place and a better environment. They have always helped me to take the right path.

Most talented teammate?
It’s close, but I would probably say Adrian Blake. Once he gets on the ball, he will do the rest. He will score or he will assist. It’s great to play alongside him and I’ve had a couple of assists for him this season!

Favourite football memory?
I would say when I scored two goals against Middlesbrough back in December in the Premier League Cup. That was a really big moment for me at the time and it was great to help the team out.

Your aims for the future?
My aim is to definitely get to the highest level possible and for me, I believe that is the Premier League, so that is where I want to get to.

Best advice you’ve received?
Always work hard, be confident and believe in your abilities.

Your job if you weren’t a footballer?
I used to work in a hotel in Reading, but if I weren’t a footballer, I would like to work for a business company.

How would you rate yourself on FIFA?
Pace 86 – I know if a ball is played in-behind, I can get to it first.
Shooting 88 – I have a good left foot.
Passing 86 – I have decent vision, which helps.
Dribbling 79 – I’m not a dribbler!
Defending 68 – I’m not too bad, but I’m an attacker.
Physicality 90 – Always working on this and it’s a big part of my game.
OVERALL – 85
