Getting To Know: Darrin Enahoro-Marcus

By: Watford FC Staff

The academy question-and-answer series shines a light on some of the best upcoming talent at Watford, quizzing a selection of Young Hornets about their journey in and outside of football.

Next up to take on the questions is Under-18s defender Darrin Enahoro-Marcus.

The 17-year-old, a first-year scholar, joined the club back in April 2021.

How would you describe your playing style?
I’m an aggressive defender who is always on the front foot. I look up to centre-backs like Virgil van Dijk because of his composure on the ball, and he is a great leader which is something I try to apply to my game on the pitch.

Favourite Watford footballer?
Ben Foster was one of my favourites. I played with him once in a friendly. He spoke a lot which was great because communication between a centre-back and a goalkeeper is really important.

Biggest influence?
My mum has been my biggest influence. She literally is the reason why I play football. She calls me every day because I’m so far away from home to make sure I’m alright. She is the one person I can tell almost anything, which is really important.

Favourite football kit?
I really liked Watford’s home kit from the 2020/21 season. I thought that was really good.

Favourite boots?
Probably the Nike Tiempos in black and blue. When you go into tackles, they are so light which makes it easier to win the ball back.

Favourite footballing memory?
That was a 1-0 win against Leicester to go through in the cup, back when I was with Stoke City. It meant a lot because I was playing under pressure. If you’re able to do it at a younger age it will help you when you’re older, playing under more intense pressure.

Most talented teammate?
At Watford it's Adrian Blake. He is a very skilful, unpredictable player. I try to hit him on the diagonal or break the lines and give it to him when he plays centrally.

Favourite things to do when not playing football?
I like to go out with my friends, or watch documentaries about top athletes to see what they do and what I can put into my game. I listen to relaxing stuff and play a lot of football, really.

Best footballing advice you’ve received?
Work hard and leave the rest to God. That advice was from my mum.
