Getting To Know: Adrian Blake

By: Watford FC Staff

The academy question-and-answer series shines a light on some of the best upcoming talent at Watford, quizzing a selection of Young Hornets about their journey in and outside of football.

Adrian Blake, who is next to take on the questions, joined Watford in 2013 and is a part of Tom Hart’s Under-18 side.

Recently the forward has enjoyed a productive spell, notching a goal in his previous match against Millwall, while regularly making the jump to the Under-23 team. He also scored against Chelsea in the FA Youth Cup earlier in the season to take the encounter to extra-time.

How would you describe your playing style?
I’m a very technical, one versus one type of player. I can beat a man and I think my link-up play is very good in the final third. I’m a left-winger who can play in the number 10 role. I base my game a lot on Eden Hazard when he was at Chelsea, especially the way he plays and turns.

Favourite current Watford footballer?
Ismaïla Sarr is certainly similar to where I want to be. He is doing really well and is the main man at the club right now. I aspire to be like him.

Biggest influence?
My parents have been huge, taking me to training all way to Under-16s. Hopefully I can give it back to them. They always tell me where I can improve and where I’m doing well.

Favourite football kit?
This season’s kit is fire to be honest. The home kit is really clean and nice.

Favourite boots?
Puma Futures are the most comfortable. Personally, I like them in blue.

Favourite footballing memory?
Coming off the bench and scoring two goals in the Under-15 cup against Barnet. It's something that will stay with me and is a good memory.

Most talented teammate?
This is tough! For me, Tobi Adeyemo, Jonathan Macaulay, Hamzat Balogun and Darrin Enahoro-Marcus. With Tobi, for example, he is very strong, physical and you know he is a dominant player.

Favourite things to do when not playing football?
I like going out with my mates and having a kick about. I like going down to Power League and scoring a few goals. I love FIFA and I play a lot of Ultimate Team. I also like listening to Lil Baby and Drake, and watching Money Heist.

Best footballing advice you’ve received?
Just to keep going, you’ve come so far now. When things get difficult, no matter what happens in life, sometimes you just have to deal with it and keep going to find that all-important motivation.
