Academy 1-100: Jake Watkiss

By: Watford FC Staff

In the 1-100 series, our Young Hornets choose seven numbers between 1 and 100, answering questions that correspond to each specific digit.

Next up is forward Jake Watkiss, who has featured regularly for Charlie Daniels’ Under-21s side so far this season.

The 18-year-old joined the Golden Boys in the summer of 2023, on a one-year deal with an additional one-year option, having previously undertaken a scholarship at Stevenage.

5 - You have four years to train for the Olympics, what sport (apart from football) do you decide to attempt?

I reckon long distance running or something along the athletics route. I used to do the 800 metres in school so I think I could do a decent job.

9 - You must use your weaker foot at all times in a game where possible, how well would you do?

I’m really only left-footed! I’m not sure how well it would go down, it’s definitely something to work on.

15 - You’re given the ability to learn any language in the world, what do you choose?

Probably Spanish, I think. I hear a lot of people on TV or in football generally speaking it. I think Laken Torres in the Academy can speak a bit of Spanish.

17 - As a now famous influencer, you are able to advertise anything in the world, what do you select?

It would be something to do with football, maybe football boots. I currently wear Nike Mercurials so it would be something along those lines.

23 - Where is the best place that you’ve been to so far?

I’d say Kos in Greece. I’ve actually been there quite a lot; the family always go there on holiday. I’ve been going since I was young and it’s always been good.

27 - You must delete all social media accounts apart from one, which are you still using?

I think I would keep Instagram. I have most of the social media apps, but with Instagram you can talk to people and keep up to date with everything.

25 - The whole squad has been placed in a Hunger Games/Squid Game-type affair. Who do you trust?

Jack Grieves - he’s sensible. I think he’d be really calm in that situation, but he also has another side to him where can he flick that switch.
