Cathcart: “We Have To Take The Positives & Move On”

Craig Cathcart hopes Watford can take positives from a narrow defeat to Tottenham Hotspur ahead of an important month of fixtures.

The Hornets were beaten by a 96th-minute Davinson Sanchez header at Vicarage Road, in a result Cathcart admits is tough to take, but was pleased with a more astute defensive performance which saw the visitors restricted to very few clear-cut chances.

“It’s difficult conceding that late on. I felt like we had the clean sheet, we felt comfortable and restricted them to very few clear-cut chances, so I’m really devastated we didn’t come away with the result in the end,” he said.

“We’ve been leaking goals recently and needed to regroup and get back to the basics and we did that in the first half. We restricted them, we knew the game would open up and we had a few chances to nick a goal but it wasn’t to be. We have to take the positives and move on to the next game.”

Leicester City are next up in the FA Cup, an opportunity to return to winning ways and prepare for a full week. The Northern Ireland international feels the performance against Tottenham was improved, and bodes well for the next few games.

“We’ve had a tough run of fixtures and coming out the end of it putting on a good performance against a top Spurs team in good form, I think there are positives there.” He added.

“We’re really disappointed not to come away with a point but there were plenty of positives to take from the match.”
