Trust: Positive Minds & Mariappa Feature On MOTD

“Anyone can be affected by mental health issues, or even know someone who is, so it’s important to have these places and support systems for people.”

Those were the words of Adrian Mariappa as he was joined by Match of the Day cameras at Watford Football Club’s Community Sports and Education Trust’s 'Positive Minds' programme.

Those of you who were up early on Sunday (March 17) might have seen the feature on BBC One’s Match of the Day, but if you didn’t catch it then, the video can now be viewed on BBC Sport's website HERE

Watford fans may also recognise Anton from the video after he spoke to the crowd at half-time during the game against Everton back in February.

Positive Minds is funded by the Premier League and PFA Community Fund and Public Health Herts. The programme delivers to local schools, young adults and coaches across Hertfordshire to support those experiencing poor mental health and raise awareness of mental health by promoting key messaging.

There are four strands to Positive Minds; Education (a 10-week schools programme aimed at pupils in school years 6 and 9), Empower group (free 12-week physical activity and wellbeing programme), Coach the Approach (a training course designed to up-skill grassroots sport coaches) and Man On! (Aimed at young men aged 18-65 years requiring support in Mental Wellbeing through physical activity).

The feature itself focused on an Empower group session, but anyone looking to get involved in any of the above can contact either liam.dwyer@watfordfc.com or ryan.gunn@watfordfc.com.
