Event organised by Watford captain's charity raises important funds

Troy Deeney Foundation Golf Day

The Troy Deeney Foundation’s first ever Golf Day and Gala Dinner was a huge success, according to the Watford captain.

The event held at The Grove yesterday raised a significant amount of money for the charity’s first project – a £40,000 multi-purpose sports area that would allow Garston Manor School children to engage in a variety of different sports and physical activities.

“It went really, really well. It went a lot better than I anticipated,” said Deeney, who established the charity with his wife Stacey earlier this year.

“I was a little bit nervous, I'm not going to lie. Obviously it was my first major event so you are always hoping everything goes well and smoothly, and it did. I think everyone enjoyed themselves and got a flavour of what Stacey and I are about.

“We had a lot of support from people in Watford. A lot of good people from the Watford area came out and supported us and helped us out.

“I just want to say a massive thank you because to come out and show that level of support was fantastic.

“I don't want to put myself under pressure, but I'm quietly confident that we've raised more than enough to get the first project done. I just need to make sure all the donations come in now!”
