Fatuga-Dada: “The Best Shape The Club’s Been In”

Having returned to Watford FC Ladies towards the end of last year, Adekite Fatuga-Dada is already showing her worth to the Golden Girls.

She made her return in the SSE Women’s FA Cup game against Buckland Athletic in December. That was followed up by an incredible performance in the Middlesbrough match last weekend, where she set up four goals in a 7-2 win.

“I’m really happy to be back and playing again,” Fatuga-Dada told watfordfc.com. “I took a bit of a break, but I couldn’t stay away and coming back was probably the best decision I could have made.

“It was difficult at the start as I picked up a little knock that set me back a few weeks, but since then I’ve really been enjoying my football and to start and play 90 in my first two games back has given me a lot of confidence.”

While she didn’t get on the scoresheet at the weekend, her contribution was exceptional and vital to the team scoring seven times. Was it one of her best performances in a Watford shirt?

“That game is definitely up there for sure,” Fatuga-Dada answered. “Four assists in a game sounds crazy but when you’ve got players around you that work so well going forward, it’s easy to do.

“In terms of all-round performance, I think that’s one of the best games for me both individually and as a team at the club.

“There’s always ways to improve though and there were definitely some lessons to learn from that game.”

Only two matches in and Adekite has already shown her versatility, impressing at full-back and in an attacking role. Those familiar with her spell at the club previously will know she can contribute in a range of positions.

“I’m certain I’m going to end up in goal at some point!” she exclaimed. “Honestly, I’m at a point where I just want to be playing so I don’t really mind what position it’s in.

“I want to help the team and do my bit, so if I’m needed at full-back, I’ll play at full-back. If I’m needed further forward, that’s where I’ll play. As long as we keep winning!”

Over the last few years, Fatuga-Dada has been a regular in the Watford side, so she’s well aware of the highs and lows that the Hornets have gone through over previous campaigns.

“I think this is probably the best shape the club has been in since I’ve been here,” she explained. “There’s a sense of stability with everything off the pitch and it just leaves us to our job on it.

“The coaching staff are one of the best I’ve worked with and the girls are the best bunch to be around and play with. I rate the current set-up highly.

“I genuinely believe that we can be strong contenders to win the league. The standard that we hold ourselves to and the competitiveness in training every session is unreal, it’s a complete 180 from last season and it’s showing in the results.

“We just need to take each game as it comes and play to the level that we know we’re capable of. Do that and I’m sure we’ll be up there come the end of the season.”
