FIRST TEAM MANAGER

Posted on: Mon 03 Oct 2011

SEAN DYCHE was appointed the Hornets' new manager on Tuesday June 21, 2011.

He has had his fair share of promotions during a long playing career, having started his career at Nottingham Forest while Brian Clough was at the helm.

Dyche moved onto Chesterfield when he turned professional and stayed with the Spireites for seven very successful years, becoming captain and helping them reach the Division Three Play-Offs in 1995 and the FA Cup semi final in 1997.

He left on a high for Bristol City, helping the team win promotion to Division One. Dyche moved to London club Millwall in 1999 and again was involved in a successful season - winning promotion to Division One in 2001.

The no-nonsense defender then signed for Watford in 2002, part of the Ray Lewington squad which agreed to a pay deferral to prevent administration soon after joining. He took over as club captain from Neil Cox in 2004 before leaving for Northampton Town after Aidy Boothroyd's arrival in summer 2005.

Dyche was involved in The Cobblers' 2005-06 promotion from League 2. Following this, the defender retired in summer 2007 and switched player's shirt for a coaching jacket almost straight away when Boothroyd recruited him to head up the Under-18s coaching operation.

During Malky Mackay's caretaker stint as manager of the Hornets in November 2008, Dyche became Mackay's number two.

And when Mackay was handed the reigns once more after Brendan Rodgers moved to Reading in June 2009, the Scotsman again appointed Dyche as his Assistant Manager.

Following Mackay's departure in June, 2011 after two seasons of relative success for the Hornets in the ever-competitive npower Championship, Dyche succeeded Mackay and was officially appointed Watford's new manager on Tuesday, 21 June, 2011.
