FOOTBALL MANAGER: AIDY BOOTHROYD
Appointed as Watford's Football Manager in March 2005, 37-year-old Adrian Boothroyd enjoyed a playing career which took in Huddersfield Town, Bristol Rovers, Heart of Midlothian, Mansfield Town and Peterborough United before having to retire through injury when aged just 26.
He was then appointed Under-17, Under-19 and Reserve Team Coach at Peterborough before joining Norwich City as their Youth Team Coach under Nigel Worthington in 2001.
In November 2003, he moved to West Bromwich Albion to assume the position of Youth Development Officer and Technical Director. He was then appointed First Team Coach at Leeds United in the summer of 2004 before coming to Vicarage Road.
In his first months in charge Boothroyd steered the Hornets away from relegation, and in only his first full season (2005/06) in charge of Watford helped the club to a third-placed Championship finish and a play-off final victory over Leeds United. That made Boothroyd only the second man ever to steer the Hornets into the top flight of English football, behind the legendary Graham Taylor.
In his second full season, he led the Hornets to the semi-finals of the FA Cup, where victory over Manchester United would have seen the Golden Boys reach only their second FA Cup Final in 125-years of existence. Sadly, Boothroyd's team fell to Alex Ferguson's free-flowing side at Villa Park.
Despite being unable to fend off relegation a week later following a 1-1 draw with Manchester City, Boothroyd rallied his troops and made it to the play-offs the following season (2007/08), having led the division for much of the campaign.
However, a robust Hull City overcame a new look Watford on their way to the Premiership and Boothroyd must now look forward to challenging again for a much sought after spot in the Premier League.
Ahead of the 2008/09 season Aidy Boothroyd has vowed to revolutionise his side's style of play, looking to add a more expansive dimension to the Hornets' play.
Born in Yorkshire in on the 8th February 1971, Aidy is married to Emma and has two children.
