WATFORD boss Malky Mackay told www.watfordfc.com that the disappointment of Saturday's postponed game will spur his players on in tonight's (Tuesday) game against Sheffield United.

"I was bitterly disappointed when I got the news about the match being cancelled on Saturday. We were all desperate to get the game on and we definitely wanted to play.

"It was really disappointing but the pitch was absolutely solid and you couldn't have played on it.

"As I said in the build up to that match, it would have been great to get back to Vicarage Road.

"Now, I've got to bring that up again! but me message is the same about tonight - it will be good to get back in front of our home fans.

"We're expecting nothing other than a tough game - you look at the players United have been able to bring in and the finances of the club.

"You always look at a team and the strength of their bench and they've got players like Ched Evans, who cost them £3m on the bench.

"Even though they had a tough game at West Brom on Saturday and were beaten, sometimes that gives teams the spur on to do better a few days later.

"But we'll be ready for it tonight."

The Blades bring former Golden Boys Darius Henderson, Jordan Stewart and Lee Williamson back to Hertfordshire with them tonight and Malky is looking forward to catching up with his 'old' friends.

"I'm glad they are still hanging on in there in the ripe old ages they are now - because they are getting on a bit those three!

"It will be great to see them again; I played with Darius and Jordan here in the promotion winning year here and I'm good friends with Lee from his time at Watford as well."

The January transfer window has brought three new faces into WD18, as well as moving out four players on loan.

Malky commented on the movements: "Mat Sadler needed to play football and Stockport came along and he decided to go there. I hope he does really well between now and the end of the season, I really do."

The Watford manager was able to breathe a sigh of relief at 5 o'clock yesterday as goalkeeper Scott Loach remained a Hornet after much speculation surrounding his future.

"I have no doubt that he will eventually play in the Premiership and be capped for his country - that's career progression but he needs to play games and he will play, learn and improve here."

The Hornets boss explained that even though Saturday's cancelled game with Swansea was a disappointment, it gave newcomer Martin Taylor time to adjust from life at Birmingham City.

"Martin's had another couple of days to settle in and get involved with the guys, compared to what he would have had if we had played on Saturday so that's been one plus point.

"He's been training and played in Birmingham's recent reserve games and been on the bench, I don't think Alex McLeish would have put him on the bench had he not been match fit, so he's ready to go.

"When you first look at him, you see presence, and he's an experienced man who's been in the Premiership and the Championship for a long time.

"He'll add that calmness and the aerial presence as well as the experience. It was one of those situations that was too good not to try and get.

"I don't know whether Martin will feature tonight; I've not decided my team yet but we'll look at it today. But we've got a fully fit squad to pick from for the game which is good."

However, Malky did indicate last week that new signing Will Buckley will be given time to bed in and work with the Hornets' medical team at the training ground.

Finally, Malky thanked the unwavering support of the Yellow Army and called on them to be in good voice again tonight for the Hornets' first home game of 2010.

"The supporters have been great all season, the away support has been fantastic and the atmosphere down at The Vic has been great.

"We need to pick up points both at home and away, but especially at Vicarage Road.

"We have got to make sure we are more resilient and pick up points too."
