MALKY MACKAY was delighted to welcome Andrew Taylor to Vicarage Road for a six-month loan deal yesterday - and also spoke warmly of the departing Scott Severin.
Left-back Taylor moved south from Middlesbrough, with Severin effectively heading in the other direction to complete a free transfer move to Dundee United before the slightly later Scottish deadline of 12midnight.
"Andrew is someone we've been tracking for a while", explained Malky, of the former England Under-21 international who was part of Boro's FA Youth Cup-winning squad alongside Danny Graham and Josh Walker.
"He is naturally left-footed so will give us something different as he joins our group of defensive options.
"We're delighted to have him here for six months. It's a period of time where he can really get settled in and enjoy playing regular first-team football once again."
It was a case of one in, one out on August 31 - however the loan window re-opens for Football League clubs in a week's time.
Deadline-day transfer business in Scotland was allowed to continue until 12midnight under their slightly different rules, and this allowed midfielder Scott Severin to tie up a move back to his homeland to join Dundee United.
"Scott has been an excellent professional throughout his time at the club. He is a credit to himself and his family in the way that he's applied himself," said Malky of his fellow Scot, who has signed a two-year deal with the Tannadice club (subject to international clearance).
Added the Watford manager: "I wish him all the luck in the world with his future career at Dundee United."
