THREATS DEALT WITH

Posted on: Mon 23 Aug 2010

MOST of the post-match talk at The KC Stadium centred around how the Hornets came closest to taking all three points back over the Humber Bridge on Saturday.

Without saying so much of course, it's a reflection of the solidity of the Watford back lines that a single goal would have proved sufficient for victory.

The likely threat of winger John Bostock - whose lack of success saw him switch positions during the game - and new arrivals Robert Korean and Jay Simpson were well documented before kick-off, but dealt with by the Hornets defence, including right-back Lee Hodson.

"To do well against someone like Robert Koren, an ex-Premier League player, is great for my confidence," smiled Lee, speaking not long after full-time at The KC.

"I thought we dealt with John Bostock pretty well today too. We knew he would go for his left foot whether he was playing down the middle or wide and he did that.

"Jay Simpson was their big signing this week but we kept him quiet so we've got to be pleased with our performance.

"As a back four and a midfield, I thought we always looked one step ahead of them."

So that's two clean sheets in a row, if you allow the boys to count the Carling Cup tie at Aldershot. Lee certainly does - and is looking to build on the good beginnings that this campaign has brought thus far.

"We've brought in one or two players to give us a little bit of depth but, like I said before the season started, although our squad might not be the biggest I think it's full of quality players.

"We keep getting told how young we are all the time. But I think we've shown already that age doesn't really matter if you're prepared to get out there and show what you're capable of."
