SORDELL: "EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED"

Posted on: Wed 18 Aug 2010

MARVIN Sordell has featured in all three of Watford's games so far, scoring his first goal of the new season in the Carling Cup win over Aldershot on Tuesday.

The youngster told www.watfordfc.com that he believes the Championship will throw up many surprises this season and the Hornets should not be taken lightly.

The 19-year-old, who has played an important part in Malky Mackay's strike-force set up for the new season, hopes the Golden Boys' unbeaten start to the 2010/11 campaign will deter critics from calling them relegation favourites.

Sordell said: "A lot of people were tipping us to go down so it's good to show everyone what we are made of so people don't underestimate us and take us seriously in this division.

"We proved that by beating Norwich on the opening day. Millwall are doing really well and so are Scunthorpe so there's three teams that people call 'relegation favourites' all winning.

"It just proves this division is unpredictable so everyone's got to be on their game all the time."

The successful Academy set-up is paying off as players progress to the first-team.

Sordell revealed he is enjoying playing his role in the new-look attacking formation.

He added: "We are starting to move the ball around in a new shape" explained the Academy graduate.

"It's really working for us at the moment and it suits everyone.

"I see myself as quite quick. Will Buckley is quite quick as well. And Danny Graham is no slouch either!" joked Sordell about his strike-partner.

"Everyone is really playing their part in the new formation."

Malky's men now look forward to a trip to former Premiership side Hull City on Saturday after a lively draw at Vicarage Road last weekend against Coventry City. But, the youngster explained that regardless of the result on the day, the mentality has to stay the same.

"You've got to always be focused" said Sordell.

"If you win; great. Take the positives of the victory and be happy and take the confidence into the next game.

"Even if you lose, you have to still take the positives out of the defeat and get over it mentally because you have to go again and you'll want to win."
