"THE DRAW WAS HARD TO TAKE"

Posted on: Mon 16 Aug 2010

IN the aftermath of Saturday's late drama, midfielder Stephen McGinn assessed the Hornets' opening home game of the season.

"It's hard to take" the 21-year-old told www.watfordfc.com after the whistle blew on an eventful match at Vicarage Road at the weekend.

"The first 80 minutes went brilliant for us. We were enjoying the game and we were on top of it.

"Then came the five minute spell of madness at the end when Coventry scored their goal and we conceded the penalty.

McGinn: "It hurts that we played that well and didn't take three points from the game."

"I honestly couldn't see Coventry scoring; we defended well all afternoon and Scott Loach was coming out and taking high balls.

The youngster, who came to WD18 in January, has made 12 appearances for the Club so far and, after scoring three goals while featuring regularly in pre-season, appears to be an integral part of Malky Mackay's set up.

"We've got a formation that suits us all" explained the Scotsman.

"Me and Don Cowie have got quite a lot of room in midfield and it makes it easier to push forwards.

"It's a system that I'm really enjoying playing in."

After making the 300-mile move down south from Paisley-based SPL side St. Mirren, McGinn said that he was very happy at Watford and enjoying the start of his first full season in the Championship.

"The first six months were all about learning and settling in.

"But I came back from pre-season feeling strong and I just want to kick on with the season now."
