SCOTT LOACH ON ENGLAND CALL UP

Posted on: Wed 11 Aug 2010

AFTER receiving the call that many players can only dream of answering, Scott Loach is now on his way to the England senior team hotel to prepare for Wednesday's international at Wembley.

Loach has impressed over the last year, since establishing himself as Watford's number one as well as England's Under-21 first-choice 'keeper, and his hard-work paid off as Malky Mackay made the phone call to tell him the good news today.

"I'm massively delighted!" said Loach.

"It was a bit of a shock this afternoon to get the call but I always knew the manager has been looking at the youngsters and you never say never, so it was a phone call that I was truly grateful for."

Loach explained to www.watfordfc.com how his Watford manager had called him with the good news.

"I got the call from Malky; he asked me if I was sat down, and I thought it was bad news, not good news!

"He told me I wasn't going to be going home tonight but I would be going to the hotel with the England seniors. I'll take that rather than any day off!

"I spoke to Ray Clemence after that, which is obviously nice as he's a true goalkeeping legend so I'm really looking forward to working with the team tomorrow."

The England senior team are residing nearby, so Loach only has a short trip to make before the big day at Wembley against Hungary.

He said: "I'm expecting bit of banter from the lads on the team coach home and then I'm getting picked up from our training ground!

"All the lads are delighted for me, it's great to share this with them and I think it caps off a great day for the team with the result tonight and getting through to the next round.

"It's all exciting times. I honestly can't wait to wake up tomorrow morning and go down and have breakfast with everyone there." the delighted goalkeeper said.

"I know a few of the boys - Kieran Gibbs, Adam Johnson, Jack Wilshire and Joe Hart so it's a bit more comfortable for me going there.

"It's where I've wanted to be all my life" revealed the stopper.

Chamberlain
Chamberlain is a father figure for Loach

"From watching these players week in, week out, even if it means sitting on the bench for the whole day, just to have the training session with them all tomorrow and to be involved is a big step for me.

"It's the first foot on the ladder and I'll take that because hopefully I'll have many more to come.

"I'm so happy to be there tomorrow."

Loach praised goalkeeper coach Alec Chamberlain for his support and teaching at Watford, owing much to his assistance and guidance.

"Alec had a huge grin on his face today.

"He hasn't got a bad track record with Ben Foster and Jonathan Bond away with Wales now as well.

"He's a great guy and he's been like a Dad to me since I got here. He doesn't say much but he keeps me grounded and goes quietly about his business.

"He picks faults in my game and that's what I want. I wouldn't ask for any different from him - he's been outstanding."
