WATFORD came out on top in their first reserve fixture of 2010 as they travelled to face Peterborough United at London Road.
The Golden Boys beat Posh 2-0 this afternoon (Wednesday) in a convincing display in this totesport.com Football Combination clash.
Second year scholar Piero Mingoia netted the first while striker Will Hoskins doubled the scoreline late-on.
The Hornets started positively and home goalkeeper James McKeown was drawn into action early on after a powerful effort from wide man Michael Bryan.
Hoskins was lively throughout and Posh defender Gabriel Zakuani produced a terrific tackle to deny the former Rotherham man on 12 minutes.
The game settled down and Peterborough responded with some lively play down their left flank, but the 'Orns stood strong as the teams went in even at the break.
Mingoia had entered the fray as a sub during the first half and he hit a shot wide on 53 minutes before the Posh 'keeper was needed to punch clear following a good delivery from the Hornets' tricky wide-man.
The Golden Boys went ahead on 67 minutes when Bryan fed the ball to Mingoia following a good run and the youngster fired home.
Mingoia was denied moments later but the 'Orns added a second through Hoskins as he converted a penalty kick after Bryan was brought down in the area.
