TAYLOR ON NEW ROLE

Posted on: Thu 17 Dec 2009

AFTER today's (Thursday) earlier announcement confirming Graham Taylor OBE as the new Interim Chairman for Watford Leisure PLC, the new man at the helm has spoken to www.watfordfc.com to send his message to supporters.

Taylor's place in Watford's history is already guaranteed following his two successful managerial stints at Vicarage Road, but recent events have seen the former manager involved in matters away from the hallowed turf in WD18.

Taylor stepped in as Acting Chairman at the AGM of the club's parent company, Watford Leisure PLC, on Tuesday evening following the exit of former Executive-Chairman Jimmy Russo.

In these difficult times for the club, Taylor has asked for this message to be communicated to the club's loyal supporters.

He said:  "I today accepted to become Watford's Interim Chairman during this difficult period for our club.

"I do so because the very fabric of what this club is, is at risk due to our well-documented financial problems. I together with the rest of the Non-Executive members of our board have worked tirelessly over the past days and weeks to find an appropriate solution.

"The board and I fully support the proposal put forward by Lord Ashcroft, to help Watford get out of its current predicament.

"As Non-Executive Directors our first thoughts are to do what is right for Watford Football Club. We believe this proposal offers the best route for the Football Club to remain competitive on the pitch and allows for some form of financial security off it.

"The threat of administration does hang over us, and I alongside the rest of the Directors, hope that Jimmy and Vince Russo will defer their demand for payment and also do what is right, as they always said they would, for the future of Watford Football Club."
