MALKY THANKS TRAVELLING SUPPORT
DESPITE a disappointing result at St James' Park today (Saturday), Watford manager Malky Mackay was full of praise for the supporters who travelled to the north east as the Hornets faced Newcastle United.
The manager asked post-match for the following message to be passed to everyone who backed the Hornets.
He said: "It's incredible at St James' Park just how far away our fans are, but I could certainly see them and without a doubt hear them.
"I looked up and our whole section was full and they're standing up and singing and offering us great support.
"I'm disappointed that we couldn't deliver a goal for them to celebrate as that was the least they deserved.
"I know they'll be disappointed, like I am, by the result, but hopefully they would have seen the effort and application from the players.
"Like us they've got a long journey home, but hopefully they're proud of their team."
Malky was even more proud of the supporters, considering that Christmas is just round the corner and people have plenty of expenses coming up.
The gaffer added: "I'm fully aware that football is an expensive business, especially for families, and there is a huge expense involved with getting up here.
"It's a great arena to play football in and the atmosphere at St James' Park can be intimidating but our fans more than played their part in offering their vocal support and I'm very proud of them."
Chairman Jimmy Russo and Vice Chairman Vince Russo were both at the game and have expressed their thanks and appreciation to be passed to our supporters via www.watfordfc.com
Vince said: "I'd like to thank every single one of our supporters this evening, the noise they made was great and it is fully appreciated by everyone at the Club."
