FRESH from signing a loan extension with the Golden Boys, Tom Cleverley has revealed the reasons behind deciding to commit his future to Watford until the end of the season.

Speaking exclusively to www.watfordfc.com, the Manchester United loanee expressed his delight at how things have progressed in WD18 so far this campaign.

He said: "I'm happy to be here at Watford, it's been going really well, so we decided to extend my loan period and for me to fight the cause with Watford until the end of the season.

"The manager, the lads and the Club made my decision to stay here. It's a really good Club to be at."

The England Under-21 midfielder has had no problems settling into life in Hertfordshire, putting in outstanding performances since his arrival from Old Trafford.

Fourteen games into his Vicarage Road career, he had no hesitation into committing beyond January, when his loan period had been due to expire.

Cleverley has hit six goals in that time, while away from the pitch he's adapted to training ground life and settled into a home in Hertfordshire.

The Basingstoke-born midfielder added: "Manchester United must be happy with me if they decided I could stay on, I speak to someone there after every game and it's really good.

"Malky brings out the best in me, as I said, he played a big part in why I'm staying here.

"He's given me little targets to work towards and I like the way he plays us and the way the team plays, so he was a big factor in why I stayed."

Cleverley has quickly become a firm fan-favourite with the Vicarage Road crowd, while his link-up with fellow loanee Henri Lansbury has come to the forefront in recent weeks, culminating in two excellent home wins.

The goals have clearly boosted the creative midfielder, but he was being coy about what his target is.

"I've set myself a goal-target, but I'm not telling anyone!" he said.

"Hopefully the fans are happy to have me and if I can get into double figures soon, that would be great.

"We're trying to make Vicarage Road into quite a fortress now, we've won the last two games there and scored six goals, so hopefully we can make it a place where visiting teams don't want to come!

"I think the team is doing really well and I think we should be pushing on for the play-offs, and that starts with a win on Saturday."

Cleverley's new loan period will expire at the end of the 2009/10 season. He is eligible to play in the FA Cup for the Hornets, except if the Golden Boys draw his parent club, Manchester United.
