LOACH ON BOYHOOD DREAM
HAD you told Watford's Scott Loach a year ago that he would be playing at Wembley for his country, in front of 34, 000 fans; he wouldn't have believed a word of it.
Saturday (14 November) afternoon's experience for the young 'keeper was an unbelievable one, as he told www.watfordfc.com in an exclusive interview from the England training camp in Lithuania.
"At the time, I didn't really take it all in" said Loach, "it was only afterwards, when I went up into the players lounge and I looked out over the pitch and I thought 'Wow'!
"It was really good and walking out onto the pitch before the game was the best feeling.
"To play at Wembley and to win has been something I've dreamed about since I was little. My Mum and Dad were really proud!
"I think I had about fifteen people watching in the crowd and my brother flew in from Germany where he's serving in the army so that was great to see him there.
"Saturday was my first clean sheet in four games for England, so it was great to get that and all the lads played well.
"We didn't allow Portugal to player create much. It wasn't the prettiest of games of football, but we put pressure on them and stopped them playing, which is what they are best at so we didn't allow them to do that.
A first half goal from former Watford player Danny Rose put the Young Lions ahead and they held onto the lead, ensuring a vital three points was theirs as England battle against Greece for the top spot in the qualifying table.
"Danny's a top lad, and I get on really well with him and for him to score was not only a great feeling for him but the for whole team.
"I was proud of him too, because of the Watford connection."
And the Watford connection is a strong one with Stuart Pearce's team, with the likes of another former Hornet Jack Cork joining Loach, Tom Cleverley and late addition Henri Lansbury in the travelling squad.
It was funny to see Henri stroll into the lunch room on Tuesday for training" said the Nottingham-born 'keeper.
"He had a big smile on his face as he came over to us!
"With me, Henri, Tom, Jack and Danny it's a bit of Watford reunion!"

Tomorrow (Tuesday) sees Loach and his England teammates play Lithuania in their second game of the week.
And after a very wet Wembley at the weekend, the climate in Eastern Europe is a bit more favourable.
"It's fresh" revealed the young stopper, "It was about three degrees at training today, but it's going to be clear tomorrow and not raining like Saturday, which isn't the nicest conditions, especially for a goalkeeper.
"But it didn't ruin the day at all it just would have been nicer if the sun was out!"
Should England win tomorrow afternoon and Greece lose their match against Portugal, Loach and his teammates will be even closer to the Euro 2011 prize.
"Saturday's win over Portugal was a great result now we just have to follow it up tomorrow night.
"If we win tomorrow, thirteen points puts us in a very strong position with three games left and that's want you want really.
"We have to play a play-off whether you finish top or second, but we want to finish top to send a message out to all the other teams."
