WATFORD manager Malky Mackay today (Saturday) confirmed that club captain Jay DeMerit has had surgery on his eye injury.

The unusual injury has kept the Hornets' captain out of action for the past month after a piece of grit or dust particle became stuck under his contact lense in Plymouth, before the clash with the Pilgrims.

His eye became infected and despite strong antibiotics, the decision was taken to operate on the 29-year-old.

That occurred earlier today at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, which is one of the most respected and oldest eye hospitals in the world.

During the surgery, the American had the cornea in his left eye replaced.

The Club wishes the defender all the best with his recovery.
