WATFORD BAND PROMOTE CHARITY DEBUT SINGLE

Posted on: Wed 14 Oct 2009

A PAIR of brothers from Watford have this week released their debut double-a-side single.

Chris and Dave Chanell and Louie and Jimmy Johnson all hail from Hertfordshire and as well as a passion for the Hornets, they have musical talents!

Their band is called Swing Youth and their debut single 'Myself to Blame' / 'Blade of Grass' - was released on Monday 12 October.

The single has been championed by Steve Lamacq and Tom Robinson on BBC radio

Formed in the spring of 2009, the band have been busy writing and crafting their enthralling set above the music venue they run in Twickenham London, where the buzz around this band and music scene is really building.

Word is spreading fast about Swing Youth's fast and frantic live performances and musically the band's influences from the post-punk era are clear to see, the likes of The Cure, Siouxsie, Joy Division, and X-Ray Spex are all in the mix.

The single will be available as a limited edition CD, downloadable through most digital outlets and streamable through Spotify.

Following the death of a former schoolmate serving with the British forces in Afghanistan's Helmand province, 50% of the single sales will be donated to the Royal British Legion.

The band said: "When we heard the news of Captain Tom Sawyer's death, it really brought it all home and made the on-going troubles in Afghanistan far more real.

"The Royal British Legion do some amazing work to support families of servicemen and so we wanted to give something back.

"We have since played some rock 'n' roll cover shows regularly at the Royal British Legion, it's always busy for us and we are made to feel really welcome within that community."

In the autumn, Swing Youth will be continuing to build on the buzz around their local area with a series of shows in both Twickenham and Watford, as well as central London. New live dates are being updated on the myspace page.
