NORWICH CITY RES 0 WATFORD RES 1
RICHARD Lee saved a penalty and youngster Liam Henderson scored a spot kick to ensure the Hornets took a clean sheet and a win home from Carrow Road last night (Wednesday).
Watford took a strong but young side to East Anglia but had the experienced heads of Richard Lee and Mat Sadler in the pack, combined with the young talents of Marvin Sordell, Liam Henderson and Michael Bryan.
Striker Sordell had a great chance early in the first half, but his powerful shot was palmed away by Theoklitos.
Ten minutes later, Sordell continued his pursuit of a goal, but his effort was inches wide.
On the 40 minute mark, Bryan also had a good shot on target and a chance to put the Hornets ahead but his curling ball was blocked by the Norwich 'keeper.
The Canaries were given a penalty after Cody McDonald was fouled in the box, but Damien Lathrope's low spot kick was expertly saved by Hornets' stopper Lee.
A foul following a back-pass from Norwich's George Francombe gave Watford the chance to take the lead in the 60 minute and Henderson stepped up to the plate, slotting the ball past the City goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
The Hornets' defence worked hard to keep the attacking Canaries at bay for the rest of the game and Watford succeeded in securing their first win of the season.
