SWANSEA go into their league match with Watford on Saturday following a dramatic exit out of the Carling Cup on Tuesday night.
The Swans had to send the injured Besian Idrizaj back on to the pitch to complete the game after injuries and three red cards reduced the home side to seven men.
Garry Monk was sent off for a clash of heads during normal time in the match and then a further two Swansea players were shown red in extra time.
The scorer of Swansea's only goal in the game, Stephen Dobbie was carried off with a suspected broken rib and Idrizaj was injured in the dying minutes of the game, leaving the home team seriously outnumbered by Scunthorpe's players on the field.
All The Swans' substitutes had been used and eventually, after extra time, Scunthorpe progressed to the next round.
So far in the league campaign, Swansea have only won one out of their four games, but Paulo Sousa will be hoping to put the last month behind him and start his career at The Swans off on the right foot.
Sousa joined Swansea City in June after the departure of Roberto Martinez to Premier League side Wigan Athletic.
The former Portuguese midfielder left QPR after only five months in April and took charge in south Wales in June.
Sousa's impressive playing CV ranges from Benfica and Juventus to the Portuguese national team.

Sousa made three new signings for the Welsh side this summer with Dobbie, Jordi Lopez and Nathan Dyer all joining the Club.
Scotsman Dobbie joined from Queen of the South on a free transfer and will now be spending the next few weeks in the treatment room after his injury on Tuesday.
Lopez, like his manager, is an ex-QPR man and was top of Sousa's to-buy-list this summer.
The Spaniard, whose previous clubs include Real Madrid and Seville signed a two-year deal at Swansea in June.
Young winger Dyer originally came to Wales on loan from Southampton at the start of 2009 but some impressive displays saw the club pay the Saints £400,000 for his services permanently.
Team News:
New signing Craig Beattie is set to make his debut for the Club along with new loanee Lee Trundle, who has returned to The Swans from Bristol City.
Dobbie (hip), Ferrie Bodde (knee) and Darren Pratley (shoulder) are out, while Garry Monk, Angel Rangel and Gorka Pintado are all suspended.
Albert Serran is also sidelined with a knee injury.
Head to Head:
Watford and Swansea fans alike are unlikely to forget the two meetings in three days that last November saw at the Liberty Stadium.

The two sides met once in the League Cup and once in the Championship under the stewardship of then Caretaker manager Malky Mackay.
The Swans took the three points in their 3-1 league victory, but Watford gained access to the next round of the cup in a 1-0 away win.
Before that, the teams hadn't met since the old First Division in 1983 when Watford won 3-1 at Swansea.
Their most recent meeting was at Vicarage Road in February, where the Golden Boys stormed to a 2-0 victory.
