FOCUS ON: BLACKPOOL

Posted on: Fri 21 Aug 2009

WATFORD'S fourth league game of the season sees the Hornets host The Seasiders of Blackpool.

After success in The Championship last time out, Blackpool will be keen to prove last year's 16th place resulting in comfortable safety was not a fluke.

Blackpool's start to the season has seen a solid win in the Carling cup and remaining unbeaten in the league so far.

Pre-season was rather successful for 'Pool too, seeing them get a 2-1 win over Everton at the start of the month.

Ian Holloway was appointed as the club's manager in May 2009, replacing Simon Grayson, who left the club for Leeds United.

Grayson was popular with the majority of the fans having previously guided The Seasiders to promotion to the Championship in 2007.

Holloway will be wanting to secure his first league win of the season to keep his team safely away from the bottom end of the table.

The latest new face to enter Bloomfield road is Jay Emmanuel-Thomas. The highly rated Arsenal youngster has completed his loan deal to the club.

Jason Euell, who has arrived on a free from Southampton, is a new face who doesn't lack experience, having appeared for the likes of Middlesbrough 19 times and just short of 100 times for Charlton, boasting an impressive tally of 89 career goals.

Head to Head

In total the two clubs have met 15 times previously. The first meeting saw Watford win 2-1 in the FA cup in 1922, with their most recent meeting ending up 2-0 to the Hornets last year.

Throughout the many battles between these two teams Watford have come out on top more often than not, winning a total of six games compared to Blackpool's three wins. Six draws have also been the outcome of 15 of their clashes.

Team News

The Seasiders are boosted by the return of Stephen Crainey and striker Ben Burgess.

However, it looks likely that midfielder Joe Martin will again miss out with a shoulder injury.
