NEW loan signing Tom Cleverley wants to waste no time in getting stuck into business at WD18.

"I just want to do my best for Watford" said the 20-year-old.

"I'm ready to play and I'm feeling 100%.

"We're looking to go to Forest tonight and get a result and I'm really looking forward to making my Watford debut."

The midfielder told www.watfordfc.com that everything had moved quickly following his initial conversation with Hornets' boss Malky Mackay last Friday.

"On Friday the manager at Man United told me Watford were interested in me and then I spoke to Malky and I was very interested in coming down after I'd spoken to him.

"It's all happened very quickly really - I came down to London on Sunday night and was straight in at the training ground on Monday, training with the lads!"

"It's been very good, they've helped me settle in really well and I'm ready to go for the Nottingham Forest game on Tuesday."

Cleverley also had another chat before he made the trip down south, to a team mate at United who knows a bit about how things are done at Watford.

"I had a little chat with Ben Foster [Manchester United and former Watford 'keeper] to find out a bit more about Watford before I made my decision.

"We chatted about what Watford was like as a place, where he lived when he was down here and what the fans were like.

"He was very complimentary about every aspect of the club and that helped me feel I wanted to come here.

"Ben said he really enjoyed his time at Watford and ultimately that made my mind up for me."

For many young players, being on the books at Manchester United is a dream come true - but Cleverley is realistic about how he will break into the first team at Old Trafford.

"Obviously being at Manchester United you have to be unbelievable to come into the first team at 17 as there's a lot of great players there.

"So it seems to be the cycle for young players like myself to go out on loan and get match experience, and then hopefully, one or two seasons later, break into the first team.

"My upcoming time at Watford will give me great match experience, playing against strong teams of good players and in front of big crowds."

As well as knowledge of life in a top-flight club, the England U20 youngster brings lower league experience with him to Watford, after spending time with Leicester and helping the Foxes in their promotion to the Championship last year.

"I had a really good spell at Leicester last season.

"It was nice to be on a winning team and being part of their promotion to the Championship - as champions of League One as well.

"It was a great experience and I think it will help me a lot in this spell at Watford.

"The experience of playing in front of a passionate home crowd and getting the points on Saturday means everything.

"It's a lot different from reserve football so I think it will have prepared me really well for my time here."

After adding to his team during the summer with striker Danny Graham, midfielder Scott Severin and defender Jure Travner, Watford boss Malky Mackay has picked out the versatile youngster as he continues to build his best squad.

"I'm a central midfielder but I can also do a job on either side of the wing too, on the left coming inside, pretty much anywhere."
