LISTEN TO LUTHER

Posted on: Tue 18 Aug 2009

WATFORD legend Luther Blissett proved to be a hit with the fans during his three spells at the club and he still is a popular and familiar face around the club today.

In an exclusive interview, Luther told www.watfordfc.com about how the stadium where he had some of the best moments of his career is still very close to his heart.

"It's a second home for me and this season, it's a new season and a new beginning for the club.

"I'm very optimistic and looking forward to what I hope is a very successful season for Watford."

Blissett played under Graham Taylor who was one of Watford's all time great managers during his first spell at the club and the former striker has a lot of praise for him.

"When Graham came in he totally changed everything" revealed Blissett.

"He brought with him this philosophy of a community and family club and it transformed Watford and everything about it.

"All the players got on incredibly well and it was almost as if we were a family."

Blissett scores at Old Trafford

One of Luther's career highlights came in the Third Round of the League Cup in 1978 against Manchester United.

"Playing at Old Trafford in 1978 in the League Cup was a great moment.

"I supported United as a kid so going there and scoring two goals, putting them out of the cup was a phenomenal thing for me.

"With Watford being a Third Division club at the time, to go and do that was something special."

Blissett, who is now part of Watford's Official Former Players' Association, hopes the current crop of players at Watford can have a successful season under their new manager.

"I think it will be quite a difficult season for us. I don't think Malky is under any illusions as to what he's got to achieve."
