FIRST year pro Rob Kiernan started his first pre-season with the senior squad last week and said it was great to be back at work.

He commented: "Everyone is buzzing at the training ground. I think we all appreciate the fact we want to get back into the routine.

"It's a different atmosphere from the U18's. This is a men's environment and it's all about winning now.

"It's not about learning anymore, it's about producing."

The former U18's captain said that the Academy have played a huge part in his career.

"I've been here since I was eight and without it I don't think I would be here today" he said.

"Training's been great and I've had a lot of help and guidance from the coaches.

"This is what I was working for since day one and signing was a really good boost for me."

Like first team players Lloyd Doyley, Ross Jenkins and Adrian Mariappa, Kiernan has come through the ranks and made his first-team debut against Crystal Palace in the FA Cup fourth round at Vicarage Road last season.

"It was one of the biggest moments in my career" he said.

"It was a bit nerve-wracking but being out there was excellent.

"You can't really describe it unless you do it yourself."

The central midfielder-turned-defender has now set his targets at playing more first team football with the Hornets this season.

"I want to be involved as much as I can, whether that's in the squad, being on the bench or wherever it be.

"I just want to give it all I've got and hopefully get more call ups very soon."
