Posted on: Thu 02 Jul 2009

WATFORD FC can this evening (Thursday) confirm they have received a bid to the value of £1.8m for talented attacker Tommy Smith.

The double winning Player of the Year has been the subject of intense transfer speculation and today the Hornets received a bid from a new club in the hunt for the 29-year-old.

Watford Chairman Jimmy Russo said: "We've received a new bid today for Tommy and we will allow him to speak to the club in question. This is a new club that has expressed a desire to sign Tommy."

The bid in question is the only one that has been accepted by Watford after all previous advances were turned down by the club.

The Hemel-born attacker has been in superb form at Vicarage Road since returning in August 2006.

Smith

Last season was Smith's best season in front of goal where he netted 17 goals.

The former Derby player was a major contributor to the Hornets' rise up the Coca-Cola Championship table during the second half of the season.

Smith is a product of Watford's Academy and he made his debut for the Golden Boys in November 1997.
