COSTA RICA 3-1 USA

Posted on: Thu 04 Jun 2009

JAY DeMerit's USA lost out 3-1 to Costa Rica in their latest World Cup Qualifier last night (Wednesday).

The Watford captain had to watch the match from the bench and didn't have the chance to feature against the strong Costa Rican side at the Estadio Ricardo Saprissa in San José.

The defeat dropped the Americans to second place as their opponents took the top spot in the qualifying table.

LA Galaxy's Landon Donovan scored the first goal at the stadium in Costa Rica since 2000 in stoppage time, but the hosts were too resilient for DeMerit's side.

The USA's next qualifier is against Honduras on Saturday (9 June) at Solider Field in Chicago where the Watford skipper will hope to feature in the must win fixture.
