WATFORD forward Lewis Young will be one of the senior heads this weekend as the Golden Boys send an U19 squad to the Copa Amsterdam tournament to compete with some of the best teams in Europe.

The Stevenage-born forward will be briefed to create and score goals in Holland but the youngster revealed to www.watfordfc.com that he still doesn't know his best position.

He said: "I'll play anywhere on the pitch! I've had this discussion with many coaches over the years and no one can pick out a best position for me.

"They just say that I've got a good football brain and I can understand most positions so they just like me to get on the ball, float about and see as much of the ball as possible.

"I don't really mind where I play as long as the team wins.

"I've had a lot of time after the sessions with the coaches working on finishing because as I play so far up the pitch, I need to get more goals.

"But where I've been working on my finishing I've been greedier and not creating as much so it's a bit of a catch-22!

"We're just trying to make my game better so I can be a more complete player."

This tournament marks the end of Young's first season as a professional at Vicarage Road.

He made his debut for the first team against Bristol Rovers in the Carling Cup last August and went on to make another two appearances in the competition as well as coming off the bench in the league against Bristol City.

Making his debut was his number one objective achieved and rubbing shoulders with the squad and learning from the older professionals has also been a valuable experience.

"At the start of the season I just literally wanted to be in the squad a couple of times and I achieved that" said the 19-year-old.

"I made my debut and that was a massive achievement. I performed quite well in the reserves, but there's no point in looking at the past now, we've got to look to next season and see what I can achieve."

Young has regularly turned out for the second string this campaign - particularly finding form towards the end of the season.

He added: "At the start of the season it felt like we had one game every two months.

"Then at the end we just started to get some form and it finished shortly after.

"Hopefully next season we'll have a lot more games and find form and push on to the first team and cause the gaffer some headaches."

The Copa Amsterdam represents a good opportunity for all the Golden Boys but Young is interested is seeing where he's at in his development, compared to the other European players.

He commented: "Going to a tournament with such high regards and playing against some of the best young players in the world can only help us.

"You always want to test yourselves against the best to see where you are and try and learn something from them.

"Even though it is a few weeks after the season has finished, it doesn't bother me! I'm testing myself against the likes of Real Madrid, you just want to play against them!"

Young will be one of the older heads in the side in Amsterdam and is still getting used to the added responsibility.

"I feel I've got old really quickly" joked Young.

"It just means that you have to learn to lead the side in different ways, not just on the pitch, you have to try and set an example."

The Copa Amsterdam tournament kicks off on Saturday (30 May).
